The Cure Discography
The English rock band the Cure has released fourteen studio albums, seven live albums, two remix albums, seven compilation albums, eight box sets, twelve extended plays, and forty-seven singles on Fiction Records and Geffen Records. They have also released twelve video albums and forty-four music videos. Formed in 1976, the Cure grew out of a band known as Malice. The Cure
The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Crawley in 1976 by Robert Smith (musician), Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) and Lol Tolhurst (drums). The band's current line-up comprises Smith, Perry Bamonte (guitar and keyboards), Reeves Gabrels (guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Roger O'Donnell (keyboards), and Jason Cooper (drums). Smith has remained the only constant member throughout numerous line-up changes since the band's formation, though Gallup has been present for all but two of the band's studio albums. Lol Tolhurst
Laurence Andrew Tolhurst (born 3 February 1959) is an English musician, songwriter, producer, and author. He was a founding member of the Cure, for which he first played drums before switching to keyboards. He stayed a member of the Cure until 1989; he later formed the bands Presence (band), Presence and Levinhurst. He has also published two books and developed the ''Curious Creatures'' podcast. His most recent studio release is the album ''Los Angeles (Lol Tolhurst, Budgie, and Jacknife Lee album), Los Angeles'' (2023), in collaboration with Budgie (musician), Budgie and Jacknife Lee. Career Early years Lol is an English abbreviation of Laurence. Tolhurst was born in Horley, Surrey and is the fifth of six children to William and Daphne Tolhurst. Wish (The Cure Album)
''Wish'' is the ninth studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 21 April 1992 by Fiction Records in the United Kingdom and Elektra Records in the United States. ''Wish'' was the most commercially successful album in the band's career, debuting at number one in the UK and number two in the US. On 25 November 2022, a remastered 30th-anniversary deluxe edition of ''Wish'' was released, containing four previously unreleased demos with vocals, instrumental demos, the ''Lost Wishes'' instrumental cassette and remix versions. Faith (The Cure Album)
''Faith'' is the third studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 17 April 1981 by Fiction Records. The album saw the band continuing in the gloomy vein of their previous effort '' Seventeen Seconds'' (1980). This stylistic theme would conclude with their next album ''Pornography'' (1982). Preceded by the single "Primary", the album was well-received by critics and was a commercial success in the UK, peaking at number fourteen on the UK Albums Chart and staying on the chart for eight weeks. Background Following the tour for '' Seventeen Seconds'', the Cure returned to Morgan Studios on 27 September 1980 to record a new album, minus Matthieu Hartley, who had departed due to disagreement with the musical direction of the band. Seventeen Seconds
''Seventeen Seconds'' is the second studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 18 April 1980 by Fiction Records. The album marked the first time frontman Robert Smith co-produced with Mike Hedges. After the departure of original bassist Michael Dempsey, Simon Gallup became an official member along with keyboardist Matthieu Hartley. The single "A Forest" was the band's first entry in the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. History At the end of the Cure's 1979 UK tour supporting Siouxsie and the Banshees, Robert Smith spoke less and less with bassist Michael Dempsey. HIT Entertainment Limited (stylised as HiT) was a British-American entertainment company founded in 1982 as Henson International Television, the international distribution arm of The Jim Henson Company, by Jim Henson, Peter Orton, and Sophie Turner Laing. ''British Hit Singles & Albums'' (originally known as ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles'' and ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums'') was a music reference work, reference book originally published in the United Kingdom by the publishing arm of the Guinness breweries, Guinness Superlatives. Later editions were published by HIT Entertainment (who had bought the Guinness World Records brand). It listed all the singles and albums featured in the Top 75 pop charts in the United Kingdom, UK. In 2004 the book became an amalgamation of two earlier Guinness publications, originally known as ''British Hit Singles'' and ''British Hit Albums''. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is the United Kingdom's industry-recognised national record chart for album, albums. Entries are ranked by sales and audio streaming. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on ''UKChartsPlus'' as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums'') in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed, this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as ''The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums'' only including this data. ''Three Imaginary Boys'' is the debut studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 8 May 1979 by Fiction Records, and reached number 44 on the UK Albums Chart.Roberts, David (ed.) (2006). Jason Cooper
Jason Toop Cooper (born 31 January 1967) is an English drummer, best known as a member of The Cure since 1995. Biography Cooper was born in London and grew up in Bath, Somerset, Bath. His father, an employee of Virgin Records, gave him a copy of the early Cure album ''Seventeen Seconds''; Cooper became a fan of the band and first saw them live in 1990. He studied drums at London's Drumtech institute, where he later became a patron and visiting artist. Cooper's first professional drumming work was as an early member of My Life Story, and he also performed as a session drummer for acts including Jean-Jacques Burnel and Billie Ray Martin, Billy Ray Martin. In 1995 he responded to an ad that said simply "Drummer wanted for international band". The ad was placed by the Cure following the departure of previous drummer Boris Williams. Reeves Gabrels
Reeves Gabrels (born June 4, 1956) is an American guitarist, songwriter and producer. A member of The Cure since 2012, Gabrels is also known for his work with David Bowie and Tin Machine from 1988 to 1999. He also fronts the band Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, which is based in Nashville. As a guitarist, Gabrels is recognized for his virtuosity and versatility, and been praised for his ability to "explore sonic extremes with a great, adaptive intuition for what each song needs most." Perry Bamonte
Perry Archangelo Bamonte (born 3 September 1960) is an English musician and artist, best known as a guitarist/keyboardist for The Cure from 1990 to 2005, and again since 2022. He is also the bassist of Love Amongst Ruin. Biography Bamonte was born in London, England. His younger brother Daryl worked as a tour manager for The Cure and Depeche Mode, and via this connection Perry joined the Cure's road crew in 1984. He eventually became the guitar technician and personal assistant for group leader Robert Smith. Already a guitarist, during this period Bamonte was taught to play piano and keyboards by Smith's sister Janet. When keyboardist Roger O'Donnell left the Cure in 1990, Bamonte was promoted to a full member of the band, playing both keyboards and guitar regularly, as well as six-string bass and percussion occasionally.
