The Count Of Monte Cristo (1956 TV Series)
''The Count of Monte Cristo'' is a 1956 British cult swashbuckler adventure television series produced by ITC Entertainment/ TPA and adapted very loosely from the 1844 novel by Alexandre Dumas by Sidney Marshall. It premiered in the UK in early 1956 and ran for 39 thirty-minute episodes dramatizing the continuing adventures of Edmond Dantès, the self-styled Count of Monte Cristo, during the reign of Louis Philippe I d'Orléans, King of the French from 1830 to 1848. The first twelve episodes were filmed in the United States, at the Hal Roach studios, with the rest being filmed at ITC's traditional home of Elstree. ITC produced a film based on the same source-material, '' The Count of Monte-Cristo'', in 1975. George Dolenz
George Dolenz (born Jure Dolenc; akas: Giorgio Dolenz and George Dolentz; January 5, 1908 February 8, 1963) was an American film actor born in Trieste (then part of Austria-Hungary, now Italy), in the city's Slovene community. Biography Under the name Giorgio Dolenz ( Slovene: Jure Dolenc), he emigrated to the United States via Cuba, arriving by steamship at the port of Key West, Florida, in October 1934. By 1937, Dolenz was in Hollywood and working as a waiter. After appearing in small parts in B movies, he graduated to supporting roles. Following the end of World War II, Dolenz became a leading man under contract to RKO Pictures under Howard Hughes. However, the failure of the feature film '' Vendetta'' in 1950 resulted in his return to character and supporting parts for other studios, including MGM's '' The Last Time I Saw Paris'' as the husband of Donna Reed's character. Alan Edgar Stratford Johnson (22 September 1925 – 29 January 2002), known as Stratford Johns, was a British stage, film and television actor known for playing the role of senior CID officer Charlie Barlow, a character he originated in the long-running BBC police series ''Z-Cars'', and continued to play in several spin-off series in the 1960s and 1970s. Early life Johns was born and grew up in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. After serving as a deckhand in the South African Navy during World War II, he worked for a time in accountancy before becoming involved in amateur theatre. Arthur Nigel Davenport (23 May 1928 – 25 October 2013) was an English stage, television and film actor, best known as the Duke of Norfolk and Lord Birkenhead in the Academy Award-winning films '' A Man for All Seasons'' and ''Chariots of Fire'', respectively. Early life and education Davenport was born in Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, son of Arthur Henry Davenport and Katherine Lucy (née Meiklejohn).
