''The Best of What's Around Vol. 1'' is a compilation album by Dave Matthews Band. It was released on November 7, 2006 through RCA Records. Despite its title, it was until 2025's release of Where Are You Going the Singles, the only greatest hits album by the group. The first disc consists of tracks from the band's first six studio albums, while the second disc consists of previously unreleased live recordings. The album sold 65,000 copies in its first week, earning the number 10 spot on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. It was certified Gold on February 1, 2007. Dave Matthews Band (also known as DMB) is an American rock band from Charlottesville, Virginia. The band's lineup consists of Dave Matthews (lead vocals, guitar), Stefan Lessard (bass), Carter Beauford (drums), Tim Reynolds (lead guitar), Rashawn Ross (trumpet, percussion), Jeff Coffin (saxophones), and Buddy Strong (keyboards). Matthews, Lessard, and Beauford formed the band in 1991 with LeRoi Moore (saxophones), Peter Griesar (keyboards), and Boyd Tinsley (violin, backing vocals). David John Matthews (born January 9, 1967) is an American musician and the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band (DMB). Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved frequently between South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States while growing up. He started playing acoustic guitar at the age of nine. From 1991 to 2003, Matthews predominantly focused on songwriting and performing with the Dave Matthews Band, which he started in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991. #41 is a song by the Dave Matthews Band, featured on their 1996 album '' Crash''. The title refers to it being the forty-first song Matthews wrote. The song was written by Dave Matthews during a time of difficulty between Matthews and Ross Hoffman, a former associate and manager of the band. Several months later, Hoffman filed a lawsuit against Matthews. Matthews described "41" as "a song about looking back, but at the same time, a song that's still adamantly looking forward and going 'But I'm still going to carry on, regardless'". ''Listener Supported'' is an album by the Dave Matthews Band, released on November 23, 1999. It was recorded live at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 11, 1999. In addition to being the third live release by Dave Matthews Band, Listener Supported was filmed by PBS for an ''In the Spotlight'' special, and the entire concert was released on VHS the same day and DVD on February 8, 2000. The title of this release is taken from PBS's "supported by viewers like you" underwriting spot. It is currently the only Dave Matthews Band live album to not contain the date or location in the title. This is because part of the broadcast agreement allowed PBS to release their own audio CD version of the television special. "Everyday" is the closing track and third radio single from Dave Matthews Band's album '' Everyday''. It reached #38 on Modern Rock Tracks, and #8 on Adult Top 40. A live version of "Everyday" is featured on the Dave Matthews Band compilation album ''The Best of What's Around Vol. 1''. ''Under the Table and Dreaming'' is the debut studio album by the American rock band Dave Matthews Band, released on September 27, 1994. The album's first single was "What Would You Say", featuring John Popper of Blues Traveler on harmonica. Four other singles from the album followed: "Jimi Thing", "Typical Situation", "Ants Marching", and "Satellite". By March 16, 2000, the album had sold six million copies, and was certified six times platinum by the RIAA. Recording The acoustic guitar tracks on the album were played by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. During the recording sessions, Matthews and Reynolds would sit face-to-face with a piece of glass between them, playing the same guitar part.
