Thalassiosira Pseudonana
''Thalassiosira pseudonana'' is a species of marine centric diatoms. It was chosen as the first eukaryotic marine phytoplankton for whole genome sequencing. ''T. pseudonana'' was selected for this study because it is a model for diatom physiology studies, belongs to a genus widely distributed throughout the world's oceans, and has a relatively small genome at 34 mega base pairs. Scientists are researching on diatom light absorption, using the marine diatom of Thalassiosira. The diatom requires a high enough concentration of CO2 in order to utilize C4 metabolism (Clement ''et al.'' 2015). The clone of ''T. pseudonana'' that was sequenced is CCMP 1335 and is available from the National Center for Marine Algae and Microbiota at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. An oogonium (plural oogonia) is a small diploid cell which, upon maturation, forms a primordial follicle in a female fetus or the female (haploid or diploid) gametangium of certain thallophytes. In the mammalian fetus Oogonia are formed in large numbers by mitosis early in fetal development from primordial germ cells. In humans they start to develop between weeks 4 and 8 and are present in the fetus between weeks 5 and 30. Structure Normal oogonia in human ovaries are spherical or ovoid in shape and are found amongst neighboring somatic cells and oocytes at different phases of development. ''Ruegeria pomeroyi'' is a species of Gram-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic dimethylsulfoniopropionate- demethylating bacterium. Its type strain is DSS-3T (=ATCC 700808T =DSM 15171T). Its genome has been sequenced. Discovery ''Ruegeria pomeroyi'' was discovered off the coast of the Eastern United States in the laboratory of Mary Ann Moran, Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. ''R. pomeroyi'' was named after Lawrence "Larry" Pomeroy, the marine microbial ecologist who notably established in 1974 that marine bacteria play a substantial and pivotal role in ocean food web dynamics.
