''Tetragonula'' is a genus of stingless bees. In 1961, Brazilian bee expert J.S. Moure first proposed the genus name ''Tetragonula'' to improve the classification system by dividing the large genus ''Trigona'' stingless bees into 9 smaller groups. About 30 stingless bee species formerly placed in the genus ''Trigona'' are now placed in the genus ''Tetragonula''. These bees are found in Oceania, in countries such as Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, and the Solomon Islands. The most recent tabulation of species listed 35 species. Bang Pa-In Royal Palace (), also known as the Summer Palace, is a palace complex formerly used by the Thai kings. Herbert Ferlando Schwarz (7 September 1883 – 2 October 1960) was an American entomologist who specialised in Hymenoptera. He was appointed a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History in 1921, a position he held until his death, and was the editor of ''Natural History (magazine), Natural History'' magazine from 1921 to 1925. Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell (22 August 1866 – 26 January 1948) was an American entomologist and Systematics, systematic biologist who published nearly 4,000 papers, some of them only a few lines long. Cockerell's speciality was the insect order Hymenoptera (bees and wasps), an area of study where he described specimens from the United States, the West Indies, Honduras, the Philippines, Africa, and Asia. Cockerell named at least 5,500 species and varieties of bees and almost 150 genera and subgenera, representing over a quarter of all species of bees known during his lifetime. In addition to his extensive studies of bees, he published papers on scale insects, slugs, moths, fish scales, fungi, roses and other flowers, mollusks, and a wide variety of other plants and animals. Frederick Smith (entomologist)
Frederick Smith (30 December 1805 – 16 February 1879) was a British entomologist who worked at the zoology department of the British Museum from 1849, specialising in the Hymenoptera. Smith was born near York to William Smith and went to school at Leeds. He then studied under landscape engraver William Bernard Cooke, W.B. Cooke along with his nephew William Edward Shuckard. Together they took an interest in insects, especially the ants and bees. In 1841, following the death of William Bainbridge, he became a curator of the collections and the library of the Entomological Society of London. As an engraver he produced copies based on the works of Turner, Constable and David Roberts. He also worked with Gray arranging Hymenoptera in the British Museum. In 1849 he succeeded Edward Doubleday as a member of the zoologicy department. ''Tetragonula carbonaria'' (previously known as ''Trigona carbonaria'') is a stingless bee, endemism, endemic to the north-east coast of Australia. Its common name is sugarbag bee. They are also occasionally referred to as bush bees. The bee is known to pollinate Orchidaceae, orchid species, such as ''Dendrobium lichenastrum'', ''D. toressae'', and ''Dendrobium speciosum, D. speciosum''. It has been identified as an insect that collects pollen from the cycad ''Cycas media''.
