Qu'Appelle-Wolseley
Qu'Appelle-Wolseley is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was created before the 8th Saskatchewan general election in 1934 by combining the constituencies of South Qu'Appelle and Wolseley. Redrawn and renamed "Indian Head-Wolseley" in 1975, the riding was dissolved before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. It is now part of the Indian Head-Milestone and Regina Wascana Plains constituencies. Cyril Pius MacDonald
Cyril Pius "Cy" MacDonald (February 29, 1928 – November 14, 2015) was an educator and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Milestone from 1964 to 1975 and Qu'Appelle-Wolseley from 1975 to 1978 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and educated in Saskatoon, at Notre Dame College in Wilcox and at St. Francis Xavier University, where he received a BEd degree. In 1951, he married Ann Sullivan. MacDonald taught school in Yorkton and in Wilcox. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Saskatchewan assembly in 1960 before being elected in 1964. MacDonald served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Industry and Commerce and as Minister of Welfare. MacDonald ran for the leadership of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party in 1971. Douglas Thomas McFarlane
Douglas Thomas McFarlane (January 4, 1918 – May 6, 1999) was a farmer, civil servant and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Qu'Appelle-Wolseley from 1956 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, the son of Andrew and Ella McFarlane, and was educated in Summerberry. McFarlane worked on the family farm and then served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. In 1945, he married Frances Davidson. After the war, he farmed in the Peebles district. McFarlane served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Municipal Affairs and as Minister of Agriculture. He was defeated by Terry Hanson when he ran for reelection to the provincial assembly in 1971. After retiring from politics, he joined the War Veterans Appeal Board, moving to Ottawa. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. The name was changed to the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association (SGGA) when Saskatchewan became a province in 1905. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The legislature has been unicameral since its establishment; there has never been a provincial upper house. The 29th Saskatchewan Legislature was elected at the 2020 Saskatchewan general election.
