Terry Davies
Terence John Davies MBE (24 September 1933 – 5 August 2021) was a Welsh international full back who played club rugby for Swansea and Llanelli. He won 21 caps for Wales and was selected to play in the British Lions on the 1959 tour of Australia and New Zealand. Davies was seen as the last of the great Welsh full backs, before the 'No direct kicking into touch' rule was introduced in the late sixties and changed the full back role.Thomas (1979), pg 132. Early and club career Born in Bynea in 1933, Davies was an international Welsh Youth with Bynea, before making his debut for Swansea, against Ebbw Vale in 1951. He gave an excellent performance and soon was a regular in the squad, facing the South Africans for Swansea on 15 December later that year. Terence Rodney Davies (18 October 1933 – 31 July 2022), better known as Terry Davies, was an Australian representative rower who competed at two Olympic Games. He raced at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the Men's coxless pair and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the Men's eight. He won a gold medal at the 1962 Perth Commonwealth Games in the Men's eight and represented in the Australian eight at the inaugural 1962 World Rowing Championships. Early life and rowing Davies was born in India where his father was a policeman. His family lived in Mumbai during WWII. Davies commenced his rowing at the University of Western Australia club in Perth in 1951. He raced in the Uni of WA senior eight at the 1953 and 1954 Intervarsity Championships. Davies made his sole state representative appearance for Western Australia in 1954 contesting the King's Cup at the Australian Interstate Regatta. Terence Davies (10 November 1945 – 7 October 2023) was a British screenwriter, film director, and novelist. He is best known as the writer and director of autobiographical films, including '' Distant Voices, Still Lives'' (1988), '' The Long Day Closes'' (1992) and the collage film '' Of Time and the City'' (2008), as well as the literary adaptations '' The Neon Bible'' (1995), '' The House of Mirth'' (2000), '' The Deep Blue Sea'' (2011) and '' Sunset Song'' (2015). His final two feature films were centered around the lives of influential literary figures, Emily Dickinson in '' A Quiet Passion'' (2016) and Siegfried Sassoon in ''Benediction'' (2021). Davies was considered by some critics as one of the great British directors of his period.
