Tennis is one of the most popular sports in Germany with more than five million active players. The German Tennis Federation is the largest tennis federation in the world with ca. 1.4 million members. All statistics below are based on the data from the ATP and the WTA in the Open Era (since 1968). Germany won the 5th most Single Grand Slam titles and is among the 10 most successful nations regarding all Grand Slam titles combined (singles, doubles and mixed). Hilde Krahwinkel Sperling
Hildegard Krahwinkel Sperling (née Krahwinkel; 26 March 1908 – 7 March 1981) was a German-Danish tennis player. She won three consecutive singles titles at the French Championships from 1935 to 1937. Krahwinkel Sperling is generally regarded as the second-greatest female German tennis player in history, behind Steffi Graf. Sperling played a counterpunching game, predicated on speed, and wore down opponents. Helen Jacobs once wrote that Sperling was the third-best player she ever played, behind Helen Wills Moody and Suzanne Lenglen. She became a dual-citizen after marrying a Dane, Svend Sperling, in December 1933. Career According to A. The 1976 Commercial Union Assurance Grand Prix was a professional tennis circuit administered by the International Tennis Federation, International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) which served as a forerunner to the current Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour. 1975 WTA Tour
The 1975 WTA Tour consisted of a number of tennis tournaments for female tennis players. It was composed of the newly streamlined version of the Virginia Slims Circuit (which was now an 11-week tour of the United States) and the Woman's International Grand Prix. 1972 Women's Tennis Circuit
The 1972 ILTF Women's Tennis Circuit was the 58th season since the founding of the International Lawn Tennis Association and was the final season to be solely administered by the ILTF. It was composed of the 2nd annual Virginia Slims Circuit with 20 events, a tour of tennis tournaments for female tennis players, sponsored by Virginia Slims cigarettes, but approved by the ILTF and the 2nd annual ILTF Commercial Union Women's Grand Prix circuit with 13 events which included Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and sponsored by Commercial Union insurance company and the 58th annual ILTF World Circuit with 125 events. 1972 Grand Prix (tennis)
The 1972 Commercial Union Assurance Grand Prix was a professional tennis circuit held that year and organized by the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF). It consisted of 33 Grand Prix tournaments in different categories including three of the four Grand Slam tournaments and was followed by a season-ending Masters tournament. The circuit ran from February through November. The 1972 Grand Prix circuit ran in competition with the 1972 World Championship Tennis circuit and, to a lesser extent, with the smaller 1972 USLTA Indoor Circuit.
