''Tennesseellum gollum'' is a species of spider in the family Linyphiidae. The species is named after the fictional character Gollum from the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, in reference to "the 'evil look' of the male of this species due to the large cheliceral tubercles." Native to the Southwestern United States, it was described based on an individual collected in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Southern California. Linyphiidae
Linyphiidae, spiders commonly known as sheet weavers (from the shape of their webs), or money spiders (in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and in Portugal, from the superstition that if such a spider is seen running on you, it has come to spin you new clothes, meaning financial good fortune) is a family of very small spiders comprising 4706 described species in 620 genera worldwide. This makes Linyphiidae the second largest family of spiders after the Salticidae. The family is poorly understood due to their small body size and wide distribution, new genera and species are still being discovered throughout the world. Gollum is a fictional Tolkien's monsters, character in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. He was introduced in the 1937 Fantasy (genre), fantasy novel ''The Hobbit'', and became important in its sequel, ''The Lord of the Rings''.
