Telus Cup
The Telus Cup is Canada's national Minor hockey, under-18 ice hockey club championship. It is an annual event, held by Hockey Canada each April. From 1979 to 2003, the national championship was sponsored by Air Canada. The current champions are the Regina Pat Canadians who won the 2024 Telus Cup, 2025 Telus Cup. History Wrigley Cup (1973–1978) The forerunner to the Canadian national under-18 championship was the ''Wrigley National Midget Hockey Tournament,'' which ran from 1974 though 1978. Canadian Amateur Hockey Association president Jack Devine (ice hockey), Jack Devine announced the sanction of the new national midget hockey tournament for the top 12 teams in the country, with the Wrigley Company being the initial sponsor. 1979 Air Canada Cup
The 1979 Air Canada Cup was Hockey Canada, Canada's inaugural Telus Cup, national midget 'AAA' hockey championship. It took place April 16 – 22, 1979 at the Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association established the Air Canada Cup for the 1978–79 season as the new official midget championship, replacing the invitational ''Wrigley National Midget Tournament''. The Couillard de Ste-Foy (Quebec) captured the first national championship, defeating St. Michael's College School, St. Michael's College Buzzers (Ontario) in the gold medal game. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island is an island Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Canada. While it is the smallest province by land area and population, it is the most densely populated. The 2003 Air Canada Cup was Canada's 25th annual national midget 'AAA' hockey championship, played April 21–27, 2003 at the Sault Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The Calgary Northstars defeated the Gaulois du Collège Antoine-Girouard 5-1 in the gold medal game to win the national title. It also marked the last season that the midget championship was known as the Air Canada Cup; it would be renamed the Telus Cup. Hockey Québec is the governing body of all ice hockey in Quebec, Canada. Hockey Québec is a branch of Hockey Canada. 1984 Air Canada Cup
The 1984 Air Canada Cup was Canada's sixth annual national midget 'AAA' hockey championship, which was played April 17 – 21, 1984 at the North Bay Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ontario. Prior to the season, the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association overhauled the format of the Air Canada Cup. Under the new format, the twelve branch champions would compete in five regional playoffs to qualify for the national championship. They would be joined by the host team to round out the six-team field. The host North Bay Pinehill ended up winning the first gold medal under the Air Canada Cup's new format. The Notre Dame Hounds and Lions du Lac St-Louis took silver and bronze, respectively.
