Interstellar (film)
''Interstellar'' is a 2014 epic science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan. It features an ensemble cast led by Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine. Set in a dystopian future where Earth is suffering from catastrophic blight and famine, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for mankind. Tars Tarkas
Tars Tarkas is a fictional character in Edgar Rice Burroughs' ''Barsoom'' series. A great warrior and leader among his people (the brutal and mirthless Tharks), he possesses a sense of compassion and empathy uncharacteristic of his race. In the first novel, '' A Princess of Mars'', with the help of the newly arrived Earth man John Carter, he becomes Jeddak, or king, of the Tharks. Tarkas is the first Barsoomian John Carter encounters when he appears on Mars. When Tarkas discovers Carter inspecting the Tharks' incubator (in which the tribe's eggs are sealed for up to five years prior to hatching), he attempts to kill Carter. The attempt fails, and Tarkas instead takes Carter prisoner and transports him back to the nearby dead city, in which a group of Tharks have taken up temporary residence. ''The Tars'' or '' De Jantjes '' is a 1934 Dutch comedy film drama directed by Jaap Speyer. The film was a remake of the 1922 film of the same name, which itself was based on a 1920-play by Louis Davids and Margie Morris. The Arthur Ransome Society, also known by its acronym Tars, and whose members refer to themselves as '' Tars'', is a society whose goals are to "celebrate the life, promote the works and diffuse the ideas of Arthur Ransome". It is based at the Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal, England. Arthur Ransome is best known for writing the Swallows and Amazons series of children's books in the 1930s and 1940s. The Rollins Tars are the athletic teams that represent Rollins College, located in Winter Park, Florida, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Tars, an archaic name for a sailor, compete as members of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) for all 21 varsity sports. Rollins has been a member of the SSC since 1975.
