Tanishaa Mukerji (born 3 March 1978), known mononymously as Tanishaa, is an Indian actress known for her works in Hindi films. A member of the Mukherjee-Samarth family, daughter of filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and actress Tanuja, and the younger sister of actress Kajol. She made her debut with the slasher film '' Sssshhh...'' in 2003 and had her first success with the political crime thriller film '' Sarkar'', and its sequel ''Sarkar Raj'' in which she had a supporting role. Part of the Mukherjee-Samarth family, she is the daughter of actress Shobhna Samarth and producer Kumarsen Samarth, younger sister of actress Nutan and was married to filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, with whom she has two daughters, actresses Kajol and Tanisha. The Mukherjee-Samarth family is a Bengali- Marathi Hindu family that has been involved in the Hindi film industry since the 1930s, Shobhana Samarth having first acted in a film in 1935. The Mukherjee family was connected to the Samarth family by Tanuja's marriage to Shomu Mukherjee in 1973. Mukherjees The Mukherjee side of the family is a Bengali Hindu Kulin Brahmin family which was originally headed by Sashadhar Mukherjee's father Haripada Mukherjee, a lawyer hailing from the present-day state of West Bengal, who established a successful practice in the city of Jhansi.
