''Tongawali'' (; also spelt as ''Tangawali'' and ''Tangewali'') is a 1955 Indian Hindi-language drama film, directed by Lekhraj Bhakri and produced by Kuldip Pictures. The film stars Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Shammi Kapoor, Anita Guha. It was later remade in Tamil as ''Alli Petra Pillai'' (1959). Salil Chowdhury
Salil Chowdhury (19 November 1925 – 5 September 1995) was an Indian music director, songwriter, lyricist, writer and poet who predominantly composed for Bengali, Hindi and Malayalam films. He composed music for films in 13 languages. This includes over 75 Hindi films, 41 Bengali films, 27 Malayalam films, and a few Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Odia and Assamese films. His musical ability was widely recognised and acknowledged in the Indian film industry. He was an accomplished composer and arranger who was proficient in several musical instruments, including flute, the piano, and the esraj. He was also widely acclaimed and admired for his inspirational and original poetry in Bengali. The first Bengali film for which Chowdhury composed music was ''Paribortan'', released in 1949. Balraj Sahni
Brigadier Balraj (born Balasegaram Kandiah) was a senior commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Early life Balraj was the fifth and youngest child of Kandiah and Kannagias. He received his primary education in Kokkuthoduwaai (in Mullaitheevu district) and his secondary education in Pulmoddai (in Trincomalee district). After he passed his O levels, his parents wanted to send him to university; however, due to civil unrest throughout the country they were unable to do so. Balraj was fluent in Tamil, Sinhala and English. Although none of his siblings joined the Tamil Tigers, some of his nephews and nieces did. Personal life At the suggestion of Velupillai Prabhakaran (who trusted Balraj), Balraj married Varathaa (a relative of Prabhakaran). The marriage was difficult, and the couple soon separated. Bharat Vyas (1918–1982) was a noted Indian lyricist who wrote the songs for Hindi films in 1950s and 1960s. Biography Bharat Vyas was born in Bikaner in British India on 06 January 1918 in Pushkarna Brahmin family. He studied B.Com. at Calcutta and after completing his studies he came to Bombay. His first film as lyricist was '' Duhaai'' (1943). He was the writer of the prayer song, ‘Ae Malik Tere Bande Hum’ and ' Ye Kaun Chitrakar Hai'. He directed a Bollywood film '' Rangila Rajasthan'' (1949) for which he wrote the lyrics and composed three songs. Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 – 31 July 1980) was an Indian playback singer and musician. He is considered to have been one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent.
