Talpa TV (formerly SBS Broadcasting B.V.) is a Dutch commercial broadcasting company owned by John de Mol's Talpa Network. History The network was launched by SBS Broadcasting in 1995 with the introduction of '' SBS6'', the third commercial channel of The Netherlands after RTL 4 and RTL 5. A second channel was added on 1 March 1999 with the launch of NET5, with this channel the network wanted to challenge the dutch public broadcasting system. In 2001 the group bought Fox from ''News Corporation'' and renamed it '' V8'', the channel was shared with ''Fox Kids'' during the daytime. They initially bought the channel for '' Veronica'', because Veronica left the Holland Media Groep and were looking for a new network. Veronica considered various options, such as returning to the public broadcasting system, but reached an agreement with Viacom to broadcast in the evening on TMF. SBS6
SBS6 is a Dutch free-to-cable commercial TV channel and is a part of Talpa TV, formerly known as SBS Broadcasting B.V. and now owned by Talpa Network. Other channels of the group in the Netherlands are Net5, Veronica, and SBS9. History SBS stands for Scandinavian Broadcasting System. When the SBS Broadcasting Group started expanding outside of Scandinavia in 1995, one of the first countries where they set up a channel was the Netherlands with SBS6. They applied for a cable license in March of that year in an attempt to beat the launch of Veronica in September. Launch rumors included the defection of RTL 5's director of programming Fons van Westerloo to head the new channel from 1 May. Veronica (media)
Veronica is a brand name of successive Dutch commercial and public radio and television broadcasters. It began its life as an offshore radio station, Radio Veronica, on 17 May 1960. The name comes from its first name VRON – . "Free" was a reference to the laws at the time that did not allow commercial radio broadcasters to operate from a location within the (land) territory of the Netherlands. Though Veronica's appeal and power have waned, most of the Dutch commercial radio and television landscape has been formed by Veronica and its spin-offs. SBS9 is a Dutch commercial television channel owned by Talpa Network through Talpa TV. The channel was launched on 1 January 2015 at 12:00 CET with a movie marathon. The channel can be received via all television providers in the Netherlands. Other channels of the group in the Netherlands are SBS6, Net5 and Veronica. History SBS Broadcasting announced its plans for a launch of a fourth channel in the Netherlands already in 2009. Tien (TV Channel)
Talpa/Tien (meaning '' Ten'' in Dutch), previously known as Talpa, was the name of a commercial television channel in the Netherlands. Tien opened on 13 August 2005 as Talpa by Talpa Holding Company, following a name dispute with SBS Broadcasting. SBS Broadcasting owned the trademark " TV10" and objected to the use of the word Tien. The owner of Tien, Dutch media mogul John de Mol, decided to rebrand the channel as ''Talpa'', the Latin word for "mole", which is ''mol'' in Dutch. Subsequently Talpa became the name of De Mol's holding company. In the first months Talpa shared its channel space with Nickelodeon. On December 16, 2006, Nickelodeon switched to The Box and Tien started broadcasting full days. On 16 December 2006, Talpa and SBS Broadcasting solved their dispute. Talpa was renamed as Tien.
