Tales From The Lush Attic
''Tales from the Lush Attic'', released in 1983, is the debut album by neo-prog group IQ, following the cassette-only demo ''Seven Stories into Eight''. It was also among the first neo-progressive releases, alongside Marillion's ''Script for a Jester's Tear'', released in the same year. In the style of some classic progressive rock albums, ''Tales from the Lush Attic'' consists of one epic song filling out almost an entire side of the original vinyl and shorter songs composing the other side. The Giant Electric Pea 2006 re-release features a bonus track, "Just Changing Hands", which is credited as running for 5:12 but in reality is 10:18 long and features a hidden track, a short nameless exotic sounding instrumental. Reception In a retrospective review, Mike DeGagne of AllMusic commented that while the album is highly derivative of progressive rock-era Genesis, "there's an air to this album that gathers attention, especially on the synth-ridden passages." IQ are a British neo-prog band founded by Mike Holmes and Martin Orford in 1981Official IQ site. Band formed in 1981. following the dissolution of their original band The Lens. Although the band have never enjoyed major commercial success and had several lineup changes, IQ have built up a loyal following over the years and are still active as of 2025, currently with the original recording line-up (with the exception of Orford). In 2021/22, IQ performed a series of concerts in the UK and Europe celebrating their 40th anniversary. Mike Holmes (musician)
Michael James Holmes (born August 3, 1963) is a Canadian general contractor, businessman, investor, television host, and philanthropist. Background Mike Holmes began learning construction from his father starting when he was six years old. By the time he was 19, Holmes had started his first contracting company with a crew of 13 employees. At 21, Holmes founded his own renovation company. He has run two companies during his 20-year contracting career. He has three children: Amanda, Sherry, and Mike Jr., who have all appeared and worked on his shows. In 2006, Holmes started The Holmes Foundation after seeing a renovation that was so poorly done that he felt it was necessary for him to tear the house down and start again rather than try to repair the damage. Martin Orford
Martin Orford (born 10 June 1959, Bitterne, Southampton) is an English keyboard player and singer. He is best known as the founder of progressive rock bands IQ and Jadis. He also worked with former King Crimson, U.K. and Asia bassist John Wetton, and has released two solo albums, ''Classical Music and Popular Songs'' (2000) and ''The Old Road'' (2008). Orford appeared on two Big Big Train albums, '' Goodbye to the Age of Steam'' and '' English Boy Wonders''. Twelve-string Guitar
A twelve-string guitar (or 12-string guitar) is a steel-string guitar with 12 string (music), strings in six Course (music), courses, which produces a thicker, more ringing tone than a standard six-string guitar.
