Stornoway are a United Kingdom, British indie folk band from the Cowley, Oxfordshire, Cowley area of Oxford. the band is led by ornithologist Brian Briggs as singer, guitarist, and main songwriter, with multi-instrumentalists Jon Ouin and Oli Steadman. Their sound incorporates an ever-changing selection of stringed instruments and Keyboard instrument, keyboards, supported by a typical pop backline of guitar, Drum kit, drums and bass guitar, embellished with avant-garde percussion including DIY hardware (saw & axe), cutlery, and Welsh gravel. ''Beachcomber's Windowsill'' is the debut album by Stornoway. The title is that of an early, unreleased song by the band. It was released on 24 May 2010 on the 4AD label. It entered the UK Album Chart at number 14 and received silver certification for sales in the UK (silver certification is awarded for the sales of 60,000). Singles *Zorbing was released as the first single of Beachcomber's Windowsill, however it failed to chart in the UK Official top 200. It was self-released by the band and a music video was released on YouTube. The unofficial video, home-made by the band with help from friend Hilary O'Hare, reached 1,000,000 views in October 2012. *I Saw You Blink was released as the second single from Beachcomber's Windowsill, and again, the music video featured on YouTube. Bonxie (Stornoway Album)
Bonxie is the third studio album by British indie rock band Stornoway. It was released in April 2015 under Cooking Vinyl. The title refers to the great skua seabird, which in Shetland is colloquially referred to as a bonxie. It is one of several references to birds on the album, which also includes birdsong on many of the tracks, in a nod to lead singer Brian Briggs' academic background in ornithology and his love of birds in general. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. 4AD is a British record label owned by Beggars Group. It was founded in London under the name Axis Records by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent in 1980 as an imprint of Beggars Banquet Records. The name was changed to 4AD after the release of the label's first four singles. Later that year, Watts-Russell and Kent purchased the label from Beggars Banquet to become an independent record label, and Kent sold his share to Watts-Russell a year later. The label gained prominence in the 1980s for releasing albums from alternative rock, post-punk, gothic rock, and dream pop artists, such as Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Modern English, Dead Can Dance, Clan of Xymox, Pixies, Throwing Muses, and Watts-Russell's own musical project This Mortal Coil.
