Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Malbork, Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California, of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Rosen was meant to direct ''The Mad Dog of Europe'', a film written by Herman J. Mankiewicz with Rudolph Hitler as its central character, but the film was never made. Russell Hopton
Harry Russell Hopton (February 18, 1900 – April 7, 1945) was an American film actor and director. Biography Hopton was born in New York City, New York. He appeared in 110 films between 1926 and 1945, often playing streetwise characters from the city. Hopton directed the films ''Song of the Trail'' (1936) and ''Black Gold (1936 film), Black Gold'' (1936). He died of an overdose of sleeping pills in North Hollywood, California. He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. Paul Hurst (actor)
Paul Causey Hurst (October 15, 1888 – February 27, 1953) was an American actor and film director. Career Hurst was born in Traver, California, of one quarter Cherokee and one quarter Seneca people, Seneca descent. In 1933 he performed in "Eve the Fifth" at the Beverly Hills Little Theatre for Professionals. Hurst is best remembered for two roles: as the Yankee deserter who trespasses at Tara (plantation), Tara and is shot by Scarlett in ''Gone with the Wind (film), Gone with the Wind'' (1939); and his characterization of the drunken and sadistic vigilante Smith in ''The Ox Bow Incident'' (1943). However, he was most proud of his role as a crotchety, old rancher who refuses water to a Quaker family in the movie ''Angel and the Badman'', until John Wayne's character convinces him to share the water. Sheila Terry (born Kathleen Eleanor Mulhern; March 5, 1910 – January 1957) was an American film actress. Early years Although she wanted to be an actress, young "Kay" Mulhern studied to be a teacher in accordance with the desires of a rich uncle. After training as an educator from 1927 to 1929, she taught in a country school to meet the requirement for receiving her inheritance from that uncle. The inheritance was in stocks, however, and its value vanished in the 1929 crash of the stock market. Career She first studied dramatics at Dickson-Kenwin academy, a Toronto school affiliated with London's Royal Academy. For approximately seven months, she acted in stock theater in Toronto. Later she moved to New York, where she continued her studies and appeared in a number of plays. Leslie Fenton (12 March 1902 – 25 March 1978) was an English actor and film director. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1923 and 1945. Early life Fenton emigrated to America with his mother, Elizabeth Carter Fenton, and his brothers when he was six years old. They sailed as steerage passengers on board the RMS Celtic (1901), R.M.S. ''Celtic'', which departed from Port of Liverpool, Liverpool, 11 September 1909, and arrived at Port of New York and New Jersey, New York, where they were ferried over to Ellis Island for "U.S. Immigrant Inspection" on 19 September. Berton Churchill (December 9, 1876 – October 10, 1940) was a Canadian stage and film actor. Early years Churchill was born in Toronto, Ontario. After his family moved to New York City, he graduated from high school there, studied law at night, and was a weekly participant in the William J. Florence Dramatic Society in Jersey City. As a young man interested in the theater, he appeared in stock companies as early as 1903 and worked as a newspaper pressman, eventually becoming a foreman and leader of his union. Progressing in his acting, he began performing with the Berkely Lyceum.
