Take It From Me (1937 Film)
''Take It from Me'' is a 1937 British comedy film directed by William Beaudine and starring Max Miller, Betty Lynne and Buddy Baer. It is often referred to by its working title, ''Transatlantic Trouble''. Ahead of its opening in Australia, the filmmakers were sued there by a Lady Fairhaven who complained that a character in the film with the same name could be confused for her. The case was settled out of court. Existing cast lists only refer to a "Lady Foxham"; it is possible the offending name was ultimately overdubbed. Joan Miller (18 February 1910 - 31 August 1988) in Nelson, British Columbia, Nelson, British Columbia, Canada was an actress. She moved to London, UK in 1931 to pursue a career in acting. Miller was the face of ''Picture Page'', a topical magazine programme that began on the nascent BBC Television, BBC television service in 1936, broadcast from Alexandra Palace. In the programme Miller played the part of a switchboard operator "connecting" viewers to the show's guests; "introducing visitors, types and personalities". Before each interview Miller, sitting at a telephone switchboard, would introduce each guest. The programme was popular amongst early television viewers. However, the mock switchboard's homespun look was found to be irksome by the ''Television and Short-Wave World'' magazine. Valaida Snow (June 2, 1904. Other presumed birth years are 1900, 1901, 1903, 1905, and 1907 – May 30, 1956) was an American jazz musician and entertainer who performed internationally. She was also known as "Little Louis" and "Queen of the Trumpet," a nickname given to her by W. C. Handy. Early life Snow was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her mother, Etta, was a Howard University-educated music teacher and her father, John, was a minister who was the leader of the Pickaninny Troubadours, a group mainly consisting of child performers. Raised on the road in a show-business family, where starting from the age of five, she began performing with her father's group. Victor Rietti (29 February 1888 – 3 December 1963) was an Italian-born actor and director who emigrated to the United Kingdom. He became known through his work in television, especially through the many live television productions of the Italian play '' To Live in Peace'' during the 1950s. He was knighted by the Italian government. Biography Born in Ferrara, Italy, in 1888 to a wealthy family, Vittorio Rietti was the eleventh of the twelve children of Samuele and Lucia Rietti. At the age of 13, he was discovered by the tragedian actor Tommaso Salvini while partaking in a charity performance.
