Taha (Shia Cleric)
Mullah Taha is a Shia muslim gay cleric from Iran. He is the son of a cleric and attended Islamic school at the age of 15, where he attained the rank of ''Hujjat al-Islam''. He officiated gay marriages, for which he was forced by the Iranian government to flee to Turkey, where he has lived since 2016. Mullah
Mullah () is an honorific title for Islam, Muslim clergy and mosque Imam, leaders. The term is widely used in Iran and Afghanistan and is also used for a person who has higher education in Islamic theology and Sharia, sharia law. The title has also been used in some Mizrahi Jews, Mizrahi and Sephardic Jews, Sephardic Jewish communities in reference to the community's leadership, especially its religious leadership. Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed
Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed (; born 1977) is a French-Algerian imam. An LGBT in Islam, openly gay Muslim, Zahed is the founder of an Islamic prayer room in Paris, France, with the goal of accommodating the LGBTQ and Islamic feminism, feminist Muslim communities. He also founded the LGBT Muslim association HM2F, and manages the Calem Institute in Marseille. Biography He was born Mohamed Zahed in Algiers, Algeria, in 1977. Growing up between Algeria and France, he reported having felt "part boy, part girl" as a child. As a teenager, he struggled recognizing his own homosexuality while briefly involving himself in the Salafi movement; at the end of his teenage years, he rejected both Salafism and Islam and followed Buddhism instead. Daayiee Abdullah (, born Sidney Thompson) is an American Imam based in Washington, D.C. Abdullah is said to be one of five living openly gay Imams in the world (the others being Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed of France, Mullah Taha of Iran, El-Farouk Khaki of Toronto's el-Tawhid Juma Circle/The Unity Mosque, and Nur Warsame of Australia). Abdullah was a member of and spiritual advisor of the Al-Fatiha Foundation until it closed in 2011. Nur Warsame
Nur Warsame is a Gay men, gay imam from Australia. He is a Hafiz (Quran), ''hafiz'', i.e. one who has memorised the Quran; he is the second Victoria (state), Victorian imam to earn this title. Warsame was born in Somalia and lived in Egypt and Canada as a child. He moved to Melbourne in Australia as a high school student, and has been an imam since 2003. Previously married to a woman and with one daughter, Warsame came out as Australia's first gay imam in 2010, and is the only gay imam in the country . Muhsin Hendricks
Muhsin Hendricks (June 1967 – 15 February 2025) was a South African imam, Islamic scholar and LGBTQ activist. He was involved in various LGBTQ Muslim advocacy groups and was an advocate for greater acceptance of LGBTQ people within Islam. He has been described as the world's first openly gay imam, having come out in 1996. Hendricks died from gunfire wounds in an attack on February 2025 in Bethelsdorp, South Africa. In an obituary, ''The Economist'' wrote that Hendricks "fought homophobia with the Koran", and that his ministry provided "meeting places, a mosque, constant reassurance and two human-rights foundations to defend Muslims torn between their faith and their sexuality". Shia Islam is the second-largest Islamic schools and branches, branch of Islam.
