Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden
The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden (), or Saxon State Orchestra Dresden, is one of the oldest orchestras in the world, created by order of Maurice, Elector of Saxony in 1548. Under communist East Germany and until 1992 it was called Staatskapelle Dresden; an earlier name was Kurfürstlich-Sächsische und Königlich-Polnische Kapelle, or Electoral Saxon and Royal Polish Orchestra. It is a constituent body of the Semper Opera House, along with two choruses and a ballet troupe, where it plays in the pit for opera and on a platform for its own concert series. Gerd Uecker
Gerd Uecker (15 September 1946 – 17 January 2024) was a German music teacher and a music and opera manager. From 1993 to 2000 he was artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and from 2003 to 2010 he directed in the same position the Semperoper in Dresden. Life and career Uecker was born in Munich on 15 September 1946, the son of a physician. After his Abitur at the Gisela Gymnasium in 1964 he studied piano, music education and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. At the beginning of his career, Uecker worked as a solo repetiteur at the Cologne Opera from 1969, where he met the director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. In 1970 he received a teaching assignment for opera at the Rheinisches Musikkonservatorium in Cologne for musical theatre. Musaik – Grenzenlos Musizieren
Musaik – Grenzenlos musizieren (German for Musaik - Making music without boundaries) is a multi award winning music for social change programme situated in the district of Prohlis, Dresden. Musaik was founded in 2017 with the aim of utilizing music lessons as a tool for social change. At Musaik, pupils between the ages of six and sixteen receive free group lessons, ensemble and orchestra rehearsals three times a week. The lessons take place in the school where the vast majority of the young people attend. The young people do not need to audition to participate and it is a programme open to all. A free instrument is also made available to each participant. The teachers are trained instrumental pedagogues who are supported by a social pedagogue, office staff and volunteers. Herbert Von Karajan Prize
The Herbert von Karajan Prize is a music award for young artists. It was endowed by Eliette von Karajan in 2015 and first awarded in 2017 at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Salzburg Easter Festival
The Salzburg Easter Festival (, sometimes OFS) is a classical music and opera festival held every year over the extended week before Easter (Holy Week) in Salzburg, Austria since 1967. It was created by the conductor Herbert von Karajan, and for most of its history featured the Berlin Philharmonic, of which Karajan was chief conductor; his successors in Berlin, Claudio Abbado and Simon Rattle, succeeded him in Salzburg as well. The orchestra and Rattle left in 2013, and were replaced between 2013 and 2022 by the Dresden Staatskapelle and Christian Thielemann. It has been announced that the Berlin Philharmonic would return as the resident orchestra in 2026, with its chief conductor Kirill Petrenko. Arvo Pärt (; born 11 September 1935) is an Estonian composer of contemporary classical music. Since the late 1970s, Pärt has worked in a minimalist style that employs tintinnabuli, a compositional technique he invented. Pärt's music is in part inspired by Gregorian chant. Isabel Mundry (born 20 April 1963) is a German composer. Life and work Isabel Mundry was born in Schlüchtern, Hesse in 1963 and studied composition at the Berlin University of the Arts, Hochschule der Künste and electronic music, musicology and history at the Technische Hochschule, Berlin Technische Universität. From 1991 to 1994 she taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, Hochschule der Künste Berlin and furthered her studies in Frankfurt with Hans Zender and later researched at the IRCAM in Paris. Myung-whun Chung (; born 22 January 1953) is a South Korean conductor and pianist. Career Performer Chung studied piano with Maria Curcio and won joint second-prize in the 1974 International Tchaikovsky Competition. Sir Colin Rex Davis (25 September 1927 – 14 April 2013) was an English conductor, known for his association with the London Symphony Orchestra, having first conducted it in 1959. His repertoire was broad, but among the composers with whom he was particularly associated were Mozart, Berlioz, Elgar, Sibelius, Stravinsky and Tippett.
