Syracuse Metropolitan Area
The Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area comprising three counties in central New York, with the city of Syracuse as its core. The three counties are Onondaga, Madison, and Oswego. According to the 2020 census, the population of the Syracuse MSA was 662,057; a slight difference from 662,577, in the 2010 census. Cazenovia (town), New York
Cazenovia is an incorporated town in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 6,740 at the time of the 2020 census. The town is named after Theophile Cazenove, the 'Agent General of the Holland Land Company. The village of Cazenovia is located in the center of the town. The town is on the county's western border. The village of Cazenovia was home to Cazenovia College, a small liberal arts college, from 1824 to 2023. History The town of Cazenovia was established in 1793 from the towns of Whitestown and Paris (both in Oneida County) before the creation of Madison County. Subsequently, other towns in the county were formed from partitions of its territory. Cazenovia was part of a region called "The Gore", based on a surveying error. Baldwinsville, New York
Baldwinsville is a village in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,898. It is part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is often referred to by those in the area as "B’ville". Baldwinsville (the village itself) is located in the towns of Lysander and Van Buren, astride the Seneca River. Baldwinsville mailing addresses also include a small northwestern section of the town of Clay. History The village is named after Dr. Jonas Baldwin, who built a dam across the Seneca River to generate energy and a private canal to keep the integrity of the water highway. Salina, New York
Salina is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,223. The name of the town is derived from the Latin word for "salt." Salina is a northern suburb of Syracuse. History The region was in the domain of the Onondaga tribe and later was within the Central New York Military Tract, although it was reserved for members of the Onondaga. Salina received its name in 1797, when the surveyor general received authority to set aside a portion of the Salt Reservation for use in salt manufacture. The salt reservation had been created by a treaty with the Native Americans. It extended one mile around Onondaga Lake. In 1798, the village of Salina was chartered. It was located in what is now the Washington Square neighborhood, or first ward, of what became the city of Syracuse; it contained sixteen blocks. Manlius (town), New York
Manlius is a town to the south east of Syracuse in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 33,712, making it the third largest suburb in metropolitan Syracuse. In 2005, the town was ranked 98th on CNN's list of Best Places to Live. The town of Manlius includes a village also named Manlius, along with the villages of Fayetteville and Minoa. It is located on the eastern border of Onondaga County. History In the 17th century, Onondaga people settled a town on the south side of what would later become Manlius. French explorers visited the town around 1654 and described the town as having an earthwork and ringed by walls. The town was occupied through 1682. This site became Indian Hill Memorial Park. DeWitt is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,074. The town is named after major Moses DeWitt, a judge and soldier. An eastern suburb of Syracuse, DeWitt also is the site of most of the campus and all of the academic buildings of Le Moyne College. History DeWitt was part of the Central New York Military Tract. The first settlers arrived around 1789. The original Erie Canal progressed through the town in 1825. The town was named after American attorney and statesman Henry Clay. Clay is north of Syracuse.
