Symmetrischema Lavernella
''Symmetrischema lavernella'' is a moth in the family Gelechiidae. It was described by Vactor Tousey Chambers in 1874. It is found in North America, where it has been recorded Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia. The forewings are gray, with the base of the costal margin dark brown, and from it a narrow, oblique, dark brown streak crosses the wing to the dorsal margin, in its course crossing almost at right angles an indistinct brown line which proceeds from a brown spot on the costal margin, and passes obliquely forwards nearly to the base of the wing. At the intersection of the lines, the brown spreads around them, forming another spot. These lines are irregular, and in some parts indistinct and behind the lines, the wing is densely dusted with fuscous to the tip. Vactor Tousey Chambers
Vactor Tousey Chambers (commonly V.T. Chambers) (6 August 1830, Burlington, Kentucky – 7 August 1883, in Covington, Kentucky) was an American entomologist who specialized in Microlepidoptera. He along with James Brackenridge Clemens, was a pioneer in the study of these insects. He described many new species, with particularly many now placed in Gelechioidea. Gelechiidae
The Gelechiidae are a family of moths commonly referred to as twirler moths or gelechiid moths. They are the namesake family of the huge and little-studied superfamily Gelechioidea, and the family's taxonomy has been subject to considerable dispute. These are generally very small moths with narrow, fringed wings. The larvae of most species feed internally on various parts of their host plants, sometimes causing galls. Douglas-fir (''Pseudotsuga'') is a host plant common to many species of the family, particularly of the genus '' Chionodes'', which as a result is more diverse in North America than usual for Gelechioidea. By the late 20th century, over 900 genera with altogether more than 4,500 species were placed here, with about 650 genera known from North America alone.
