Swiss Alliance Of Consumer Organisations
The Swiss Alliance of Consumer Organisations, founded in 2010, is the umbrella organisation of the three Swiss consumer organisations: * :de:Stiftung für Konsumentenschutz, Stiftung für Konsumentenschutz (SKS, founded in 1964) of German-speaking Switzerland; * :fr:Fédération romande des consommateurs, Fédération romande des consommateurs (FRC, founded in 1959) of French-speaking Switzerland; * Associazione consumatrici e consumatori della Svizzera italiana (ACSI, founded in 1975) of Italian-speaking Switzerland. History The earliest efforts for consumer protection in Switzerland emerged in the 19th century, with organisations such as the Konsumverein Zürich (founded in 1851), the first of a number of consumers' co-operatives. Consumers' Co-operative
A consumer cooperative is an enterprise owned by consumers and managed democratically and that aims at fulfilling the needs and aspirations of its members. Such cooperatives operate within the market economy independently of the state, as a form of mutual aid oriented toward service rather than pecuniary profit. Many cooperatives, however, do have a degree of profit orientation. Just like other corporations, some cooperatives issue dividends to owners based on a share of total net profit or earnings (all owners typically receive the same amount); or based on a percentage of the total amount of purchases made by the owner. Regardless of whether they issue a dividend or not, most consumers’ cooperatives will offer owners discounts and preferential access to goods and services. A consumer is a person or a group who intends to order, or use purchased goods, products, or services primarily for personal, social, family, household and similar needs, who is not directly related to entrepreneurial or business activities. Simonetta Sommaruga
Simonetta Myriam Sommaruga (born 14 May 1960) is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2010 to 2022. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SP/PS), she was President of the Swiss Confederation in 2015 and 2020. A former director of the Consumer Protection Foundation, which merged into the Swiss Alliance of Consumer Organisations in 2010, Sommaruga has headed the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications since 2019, previously heading the Federal Department of Justice and Police (2010–2018). She served as Vice President of Switzerland for 2014 and 2019. Sommaruga assumed the role of President of the Swiss Confederation in 2015, before returning to the position in 2020. Coop () is one of Switzerland's largest retail and wholesale companies. It is structured in the form of a cooperative society with around 2.5 million members. As of 2019, Coop operated 2,478 shops and employed more than 90,000 people in Switzerland.
