Swedish Muslims For Peace And Justice
Swedish Muslims for Peace and Justice (Swedish: ''Svenska Muslimer för Fred och Rättvisa'', SMFR) is a Swedish Muslim self-described peace organization. It was founded in 2008 by a group including the Swedish Parliamentarian Mehmet Kaplan and is today one of the largest peace groups in Sweden It is headed by former Green Party politician Yasri Khan. Kaplan has since been forced to resign from the Swedish Cabinet due to his association with advocates of violent attacks on Armenians and connections to Islamist militants in Turkey. In the years 2015-2017 SMPJ received state subsidies from the Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society according to the latter's 2017 annual report. SMPJ is a supporting organisation to Ship to Gaza Sweden. The group has been active with educational and leadership programs. Mehmet Güner Kaplan (born 18 July 1971) is a Swedish politician of Turkish origin who served as Minister for Housing and Urban Development from 2014 to 2016. He is a member of the Swedish Green Party. Kaplan resigned from the Cabinet after controversy regarding ties to Islamic extremism. Yasri Khan
Yasri Khan (born 2 April 1986 in Stockholm) is a Swedish politician and the leader of organization Swedish Muslims for Peace and Justice. Khan was a member of the Swedish Green Party, but left the party due to heavy criticism for refusing to shake hands with a female reporter from TV4. Khan himself stated that he was raised in the way that a handshake was too intimate, but didn't mean to disrespect women, and also noted that politics was not the right field for him. Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society ( sv, Myndigheten för ungdoms- och civilsamhällesfrågor, MUCF) is a Swedish government agency which deals with youth policy and issues relating to Swedish civil society.
