Supreme Court Of Uganda
The Supreme Court of Uganda is the highest judicial organ in Uganda. It derives its powers from Article 130 of the 1995 Constitution. It is primarily an appellate court with original jurisdiction in only one type of case: a presidential election petition. Location The Supreme Court Building is located at Plot 2, The Square, on Nakasero Hill. This is in the Central Division of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Bart Magunda Katureebe
Bart Magunda Katureebe is a Ugandan judge and the former Chief Justice of Uganda. He was appointed to that position on 5 March 2015. Before that, he was a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda. Background and education He was born on 20 June 1950, in Rugazi Village, Rubirizi District in the Western Region, Uganda, Western Region of Uganda to Yowana Magunda and Virginia Ngonzi. He went to Rugazi Primary School for his elementary schooling from 1957 until 1962. He then went to St. Joseph Junior Secondary School in Mbarara from 1963 to 1964, and Kitunga High School in Ntungamo District for his O-Level from 1965 until 1968. He attended Namilyango College, an all-boys boarding school in Mukono District, for his A-Level education from 1969 to 1970. Percy Tuhaise
Percy Night Tuhaise, is a Ugandan lawyer and judge who, on 8 February 2018, was appointed by president Yoweri Museveni, to the Uganda Court of Appeal which also doubles as the country's Constitutional Court. Prior to her current position she served on the High Court of Uganda. Background and education She graduated from the Faculty of Law of Makerere University, Uganda's largest and oldest public university, with a Bachelor of Laws, circa 1983. Samuel Wako Wambuzi
Samuel Wako Wambuzi (born January 23, 1931) is a Ugandan scholar and jurist who served three times as the Chief Justice of Uganda; from 1972 to 1975, 1979 to 1980 and 1986 to 2001. Early life Wambuzi was born in Kaliro village, at Namalemba in the present day now known as Kamuli district, his mother Milyamu Naigaga died one year after Wambuzi was born and was raised by his stepmother. He attended Makerere University College and Kabete Veterinary School, Wambuzi flanks in his examination mostly his final examination leading him not qualified in subject of profession but do excel other subject. Benjamin Josses Odoki (born 23 March 1943) is a former Chief Justice of Uganda, former Supreme Court Justice of Eswatini, and current Chairman of the Committee of Constitutional Experts for Drafting the EAC Political Federation Constitution, the committee drafting the constitution for the East African Federation, East African Confederation. Odoki served as the tenth Chief Justice of Uganda from 2001 to 2013 after fifteen years as a Judge on the Supreme Court of Uganda. Steven Kavuma
Steven Kavuma is a Ugandan judge and the immediate former deputy chief justice of Uganda. He was appointed to that post on 5 March 2015. From April 2013 until March 2015, he served as the acting Chief Justice of Uganda, pending the appointment of a substantive Chief Justice by the President of Uganda. However, the way Uganda's judiciary is configured, the Deputy Chief Justice is not a member of the Supreme Court of Uganda, but is a member of the Court of Appeal of Uganda. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa (born 15 September 1944) is a Ugandan politician and Officer (armed forces), military officer who is the ninth and current president of Uganda since 1986. Susan Kigula
Susan Kigula (born 1980) is a Ugandan prison reformer. Her case (''Susan Kigula and 416 Others vs Attorney General, 2009'') resulted in changes to Ugandan law regarding the death penalty. Background She was born from Masaka district and used to work in a small gift shop in Kampala Uganda. Kigula was imprisoned in 2000. Along with her maid Nansamba Patience, she was accused of the murder of her partner, Constantine Sseremba. The court case hinged on the testimony of her three-year-old stepson. In 2009 she was sentenced to death by hanging. Kigula challenged the death sentence ruling in the Supreme Court of Uganda, resulting in changes to Ugandan law regarding the death penalty.
