The Federal Territories (FT), () in Malaysia comprise three territories—Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya—governed directly by the Federal Government of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the national capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya the administrative capital, and Labuan an offshore international financial centre. The Election Commission of Malaysia (; Jawi: ), abbreviated SPR or EC, is a commission set up for ensuring fair and equitable operations in undertaking the elections in Malaysia. The agency falls under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department. History The Election Commission (EC) was formed on 4 September 1957, under Article 114 of the Constitution of Malaysia, which empowers it to conduct elections for the Dewan Rakyat and state legislative bodies. At its establishment, the EC only consisted of a chairman and two members – Datuk Dr Mustafa Albakri Hassan together with Lee Ewe Boon and Ditt Singh. Ganga Nayar
Ganga Nayar (3 August 1923 – 3 April 2009) was a Malaysian politician of Indian descent who founded the Malaysian Workers' Party. She was known for being the first women to lead a political party in Malaysia. In 1969, upon winning the Serendah state seat, she was also the first woman of Indian descent to be elected to a legislature in Malaysia. Political career She joined the Labour Party of Malaya in 1958 at the age of 34 stating that, "Serving with politics and serving without politics is different. Tan Kok Wai () (born 7 October 1957) is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheras since April 1995. He served as the Special Envoy of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to China from August 2018 to March 2020 as well as the MP for Sungai Besi from August 1986 to April 1995. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, and served as its 1st Advisor from March 2020 to March 2025, and previously as its 4th National Chairman from March 2014 to March 2022.
