Sunday (Foals Song)
"Sunday" is the third single by British indie rock band Foals from their fifth studio album, ''Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1''. The song was released on 25 February 2019. A remix EP of the single was released 27 June 2019 with remixes by British electronic producers, Alex Metric and Lake Turner respectively. Style Ryan Reed, writing for the ''Rolling Stone'' described "Sunday" as two songs in one, with the intro having a slow-paced psychedelic and space rock tempo before breaking out into a dance-punk outro." Reed further described the song as "Philippakis gently crooning about burning cities and youthful optimism over swaying electric guitars and ambient keyboard textures. The arrangement shifts halfway through into a faster, funky section that builds with squelching synths and overlapping vocals." Sam Moore, writing for ''NME'' called "Sunday" a "funk-punk" track. Foals (band)
Foals, stylised as FOALS, are a British rock band formed in Oxford in 2005. The band's current line-up consists of Greek-born lead vocalist and guitarist Yannis Philippakis, drummer and percussionist Jack Bevan and rhythm guitarist Jimmy Smith. They are currently signed to Warner Records, and have released seven studio albums to date: ''Antidotes'' (2008), '' Total Life Forever'' (2010), '' Holy Fire'' (2013), '' What Went Down'' (2015), and '' Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1'' & 2 (2019) and their most recent, '' Life Is Yours'' (2022). A foal is an equine up to one year old; this term is used mainly for horses, but can be used for donkeys. Yannis Philippakis (Greek: Ιωάννης "Γιάννης" Φιλιππάκης) (born 23 April 1986) is the lead singer and guitarist of the British indie rock band Foals. Early life Born to a Greek father and a South African Jewish mother, Philippakis lived in Greece until he was 4 years old when his family moved to South Africa. After living there for a year, his parents divorced. Every summer Philippakis would visit his father in Olympos on the Greek island Karpathos. His father played a significant role in his life regarding music, teaching him traditional Greek songs. Philippakis was raised in the Greek Orthodox religion. Education Philippakis was educated at Magdalen College School. There he had met all of the requirements for an assisted place at Magdalen, where he had taken classes on French, literature, and art.
