Sunbury Pop Festival
Sunbury Pop Festival or Sunbury Rock Festival was an annual Australian rock music festival held on a private farm between Sunbury and Diggers Rest, Victoria, which was staged on the Australia Day (26 January) long weekend from 1972 to 1975. It attracted up to 45,000 patrons and was promoted by Odessa Promotions, which was formed by a group of television professionals, including John Fowler, from GTV 9 Melbourne. Although conceived and promoted as Australia's Woodstock, the Sunbury Pop Festivals signalled the end of the hippie peace movement of the late 1960s and the beginning of the reign of pub rock. The early festivals were financially successful and featured performances by Australian and New Zealand bands including, Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs, Max Merritt and the Meteors, Chain and Wild Cherries. Diggers Rest, Victoria
Diggers Rest (formerly Diggers' Rest) is a suburb in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It is and 29 minutes north-west of Melbourne's Melbourne City Centre, Central Business District, located within the Cities of City of Hume, Hume and City of Melton, Melton Local Government Areas of Victoria, local government areas. Tooheys New is a standard Australian lager. It can be found on tap at almost any bar in New South Wales and has historically been the state's number 1 beer. History It was first brewed in 1931 and was marketed under the name ''Tooheys New Special''. In the 1970s, the beer began being marketed as ''Tooheys New Special Draught'' when sold in cans and bottles, later shortened to ''Tooheys Draught''. The Music Victoria Awards (previously known as The Age EG Awards and The Age Music Victoria Awards) are an annual awards night celebrating music from the Australian state of Victoria. The Music Victoria Awards of 2015 are the tenth Annual Music Victoria Awards and consist of a series of awards, culminating in an awards ceremony on 11 November 2015. Graeme Ronald Strachan (pronounced "Strawn") (2 January 195229 August 2001), professionally billed and known as "Shirley" Strachan or Shirl, was an Australian singer, songwriter, radio and television presenter, and carpenter. He was the lead singer of the rock group Skyhooks (band), Skyhooks (1974–1978, 1983, 1984, 1990, 1994).
