Summer Learning Loss
Summer learning loss or ''summer slide'', is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation in countries that have lengthy breaks in the school year, such as the US and Canada. Schools see evidence of this because students are often given a standardised test prior to the summer break and again when they return to school in the autumn. Research studies produce different results as to the extent of the loss, however they all appear to agree that the loss in learning varies across age and grade, subject matter, and family income and socioeconomic status. Collaborative Summer Library Program
The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that supports literacy, education and science through summer reading events in public libraries across the United States. History CSLP began in 1987 with ten Minnesota regional library systems that joined together to create a theme, artwork and program ideas for libraries to use for children's programming. It subsequently expanded to libraries throughout all fifty states and Washington D.C. to ensure all libraries can provide a high quality summer reading program. As of 2019, more than 4,800 libraries were participants. Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge is an educational competition held annually in public libraries in the United Kingdom, organised by The Reading Agency. It first began in 1999 with the intention of encouraging primary school children to read books during the summer holidays. Participants are awarded stickers and medals based on the competition's theme per tier. Materials are available in large print with supplementary information in Braille. Literacy
