Sukhjit Singh (Soldier)
Brigadier Sukhjit Singh, MVC (born 15 October 1934) is a former Indian Army officer who served with The Scinde Horse. He was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second highest award for gallantry, for his leadership and courage in facing the enemy during the Battle of Basantar in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Early life Crown Prince Sukhjit Singh was born on 15 October 1934, in Bangalore as the second child to the Crown Prince Paramjit Singh Sahib Bahadur (son of King Jagatjit Singh I) by his second wife, Lilavati Devi, he had an elder sister, Princess Aas Kaur (b.1933 - d.2017) as well as three paternal elder half-sisters ( Princess Indira Devi, Princess Sushila Devi and Princess Urmila Devi) from, Brinda Devi, the first wife of his father. Ahluwalia (misl)
Ahluwalia (also transliterated as Ahluvalia) was a misl, that is, a sovereign state in the Sikh Confederacy of Punjab region in present-day India and Pakistan. The misl's name is derived from Ahlu, the ancestral village of the misl leaders. The Ahluwalia misl was one of the 12 major Sikh misls, and held land to the north of Sutlej river. Indira Devi of Kapurthala (26 February 1912 – 1 September 1979), affectionately known as the Radio Princess, was an Indian socialite and princess, the eldest grandchild of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of the princely state of Kapurthala in Punjab, British India. During the Second World War she was recruited as a political correspondent to George Orwell, for the India team of the BBC. There, she became a regular broadcaster of the programme ''The Debate Continues'' from the House of Commons, and ''Hello Punjab'', a programme in Hindustani for the British Indian Army. With Narayana Menon she hosted the Indian Service musical programmes. At the age of 23, Devi had secretly travelled to London to become an actress, telling only her two sisters, and enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. ''Prince, Patron and Patriarch: Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala'' is a book about Jagatjit Singh (1872-1949), the last ruling Maharajah of the princely state of Kapurthala during British rule in India. It is authored by his grandson Brigadier Sukhjit Singh, in collaboration with conservation architect Cynthia Meera Frederick, who conceived and seeded the idea for the book. Brig Sukhjit says Cynthia persuaded him to co-author the book to do justice to this exceptional royal. It was published by Roli Books in 2019. Pramod Kumar K G is the consulting editor.
