Dorset Council (UK)
Dorset Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Dorset in England. It is a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council. The non-metropolitan county is smaller than the ceremonial county of Dorset, which also includes Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The council was created in 2019 when local government across Dorset was reorganised. The council has been under Liberal Democrat majority control since the 2024 election. River Allen, Dorset
The River Allen is a river in Dorset in South West England. It flows for to its confluence with the River Stour at Wimborne Minster. It has two main tributaries, the Gussage Stream and the Crichel Stream. Route The River Allen starts as a winterbourne at Wyke Farm in Monkton Up Wimborne, on the chalk downland of Cranborne Chase. It flows roughly southwards on the dip slope of the downland through Wimborne St Giles, and is joined by the Gussage stream at Gussage All Saints and the Crichel stream south of Moor Crichel, before passing through Witchampton and Hinton Parva, where the landscape transitions from chalk downland to broad valley. Finally, at Wimborne Minster, it flows into the Stour immediately south the town beside the old Canford Bridge across the Stour to Oakley. Verwood is a town and civil parish in eastern Dorset, England. The town lies north of Bournemouth and north east of Poole as the crow flies. The civil parish comprises the town of Verwood together with the extended village of Three Legged Cross, and in 2014 had a population of 15,170 (according to Dorset County Council). Ferndown is a town and civil parish in Dorset in southern England, immediately to the north of Bournemouth and Poole. The parish, which until 1972 was called ''Hampreston'', includes the communities of Ameysford, Hampreston, Longham, Stapehill and Trickett's Cross. At the 2011 census, the population of the parish was 26,559, making Ferndown the largest inland town in Dorset in terms of population, being larger than Dorchester. Wimborne Minster (often referred to as Wimborne, ) is a market town in Dorset in South West England, and the name of the Church of England church in that town. It lies at the confluence of the River Stour and the River Allen, north of Poole, on the Dorset Heaths, and is part of the South East Dorset conurbation. According to Office for National Statistics data the population of the Wimborne Minster built-up area was 15,552. Chalbury
Chalbury is a village in the English county of Dorset. It lies on the southern edge of Cranborne Chase within the Dorset unitary authority area of the county, four miles north of Wimborne Minster and four miles west of Verwood. The village is sited on Chalbury Hill, the view from which has been described as "one of the most fascinating in the county".
