Storekalsøy Chapel
Storekalsøy Chapel ( no, Storekalsøy kapell or ) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Austevoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Bakkasund on the island of Storekalsøy in the northwestern part of the municipality. It is one of the five churches for the Austevoll parish which is part of the Fana prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The brown, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1975 using plans drawn up by the architect Einar Vaardal-Lunde from Bergen. The church seats about 250 people. History The people of Storekalsøy island petitioned for a chapel on the island in the 1880s. In 1889, the parish decided to move the centrally located Møkster Church to a new site further south and that a new annex chapel would be built on Storekalsøy in the north. List Of Churches In Bjørgvin
The list of churches in Bjørgvin is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Bjørgvin which includes all of Vestland county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a provost) in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities each of which has their own church council () and then into parishes () which have their own councils (). Each parish may have one or more local church. Historically, the diocese has had many deaneries, but the number of deaneries has been reduced in recent years. Austevoll Church ( no, Austevoll kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Austevoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Storebø. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1306, the church was not new that year. The first church in Austevoll was a wooden stave church built on the small island of Sandtorv, probably during the late 1200s. A chapel of ease (or chapel-of-ease) is a church building other than the parish church, built within the bounds of a parish for the attendance of those who cannot reach the parish church conveniently.
