The rose leaf miner (''Stigmella anomalella'') is a moth of the family Nepticulidae. It is found in all of Europe, east to the eastern part of the Palearctic realm. The moths have shining greenish-bronzy forewings, lighter posteriorly and with the apical fourth purple. The wingspan is . Head ferruginous-orange to black, collar yellow-whitish. Antennal eyecaps whitish. Hindwings grey. Adults are on wing from May to August. There are two generations per year. Johann August Ephraim Goeze
Johann August Ephraim Goeze (; 28 May 1731 – 27 June 1793) was a German zoologist, born in Aschersleben. He is known for the discovery of tardigrades, also called water bears. He was the son of Johann Heinrich and Catherine Margarete (née Kirchhoff). He studied theology at University of Halle. He married Leopoldine Maria Keller in 1770, by whom he had four children. In 1751, he became a pastor in Aschersleben, in Quedlinburg, and later of in Quedlinburg in 1762, finally becoming first deacon of the seminary of Quedlinburg in 1787. He died in Quedlinburg. He did much work with aquatic invertebrates, particularly insects and worms. In 1773, he was the first to describe tardigrades. The Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL) was an international initiative dedicated to supporting the development of DNA barcoding as a global standard for species identification. CBOL's Secretariat Office is hosted by the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, DC. A leaf miner is any one of numerous species of insects in which the larval stage lives in, and eats, the leaf tissue of plants. The vast majority of leaf-mining insects are moths ( Lepidoptera), sawflies (Symphyta, the mother clade of wasps), and flies ( Diptera). Some beetles also exhibit this behavior. Like woodboring beetles, leaf miners are protected from many predators and plant defenses by feeding within the tissues of the leaves, selectively eating only the layers that have the least amount of cellulose.
