Stephen Davies (speedway Rider)
Stephen Mark Davies (born 31 January 1965) is an Australian former international speedway rider. Speedway career Davies twice won medals at the Australian National Championships. He won a silver medal in 1989 behind Glenn Doyle and a bronze medal the following year in 1990. He was the champion of New South Wales on several occasions and reached the 1987 Individual Long Track World Championship semi final. After winning the New South Wales Championship in 1986 he arrived to race in Britain. Davies rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1986 to 1990, riding for King's Lynn Stars. New South Wales Individual Speedway Championship
The New South Wales Individual Speedway Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held annually in New South Wales to determine the NSW State champion. The event is organised by the NSW Solo Riders' Association and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Billy Sanders from Sydney holds the record for the most number of NSW Championship wins with eight between 1976 and 1985. From his first win in 1976 until his last win in 1985, with the exception of 1983 when no title was run, Sanders was the only winner of the NSW title. Seven international riders have won the NSW Solo Championship. 1992 British League Division Two Season
The 1992 British League Division Two season was contested as the second division of Speedway in the United Kingdom. Summary Berwick dropped down from division 1 but the league lost two teams with Mildenhall Fen Tigers and Milton Keynes Knights both withdrawing from the league in June and their results were expunged. Mildenhall however did complete their Gold Cup fixtures. The BSPA withdrew the Milton Keynes speedway licence following complaints over the state of the track and several days later on 24 June, the club was wound-up. The title was won by the Peterborough Panthers. The season had a sad end when on 13 September Wayne Garratt crashed riding for Newcastle Diamonds against Peterborough. He suffered a brain injury and was placed on a life support machine but died 15 days later. Glenn Doyle
Glenn Doyle (born 3 March 1965 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a retired Australian Motorcycle speedway rider. Doyle is a twice Australian Champion and won the Western Australian Championship in his adopted state on six occasions. He earned 20 caps for the Australia national speedway team. Career Doyle began his speedway career in the mid-1980s in Perth, Western Australia, and quickly rose to prominence as WA's best solo rider, becoming a regular winner at the Claremont Speedway In 1986, Doyle started racing in England during the Australian winter months, starting his career with Long Eaton. Between 1986 and 1988 he rode for Long Eaton, Belle Vue Aces, Hackney Kestrels, Sheffield Tigers, Oxford Cheetahs, Swindon Robins, Ipswich Witches and Reading Racers. King's Lynn Stars
King's Lynn Stars are a motorcycle speedway team who compete in the SGB Premiership. The nickname "Stars" was adopted from the defunct Norwich Stars team. The team was founded in 1965 and has been running continually since then, except for 1996 when King's Lynn failed to have a team competing in the British league system. History 1960s Plans for speedway in King's Lynn surfaced in 1965, when Maurice Littlechild promoted on an open licence at King's Lynn Stadium. Littlechild had plans to create a team called the South Lynn Stars named after the Norwich Stars, who had closed in 1964. The first meeting was on 23 May 1965 and the South Lynn Stars name was dropped in favour of the King's Lynn Stars. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to .
