Stenhouse Bay, South Australia
Stenhouse Bay is a place in the Australian state of South Australia near the south-west extremity of the Yorke Peninsula located in the gazetted locality of Inneston, South Australia, Inneston about west of the state capital of Adelaide city centre, Adelaide. Naming Stenhouse Bay was named after Andrew Stenhouse who was a principal of the Permasite Manufacturing Co Pty Ltd which held "leases for the harvesting of gypsum north of Cape Spencer (South Australia), Cape Spencer.” Since 1999, it has been located within the locality of Inneston. Its official status as of 2013 is that of a 'locality unbounded' which is listed on the South Australian place name gazetteer with the advice that it is "not to be used as an address". John Stenhouse
John Stenhouse FRS FRSE FIC FCS (21 October 1809 – 31 December 1880) was a British chemist. In 1854, he invented one of the first practical respirators. He was a co-founder of the Chemical Society in 1841. Life John Stenhouse was born in Barrhead in Glasgow on 21 October 1809. He was the eldest son of William Stenhouse, a calico-printer in the family firm of John Stenhouse & Co of 302 High Street, Glasgow, and Elizabeth Currie; he was the only one of their children to survive beyond infancy. After education at the Glasgow Grammar School, he studied at the University of Glasgow from 1824 to 1828. Initially he intended to pursue a career in literature, but later his interests switched to chemistry, which he studied first under Professor Thomas Graham at the university and then under Dr. Thomas Thomson at Anderson's University in Glasgow (now part of the University of Strathclyde, one of whose buildings is named after him). A member of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, he was a scholar, linguist, expert on Samaritan studies, writer, historian, and editor of the longest lasting journal in Australia's history, '' Annals Australasia: Journal of Catholic Culture.'' Early life and education Paul Francis Lester Stenhouse was born on 9 December 1935, in Casino, northern New South Wales. His father, Richard, was born in New Zealand but later moved to Australia. Nicol Drysdale Stenhouse (27 June 1806 – 18 February 1873) was a Scottish-born lawyer, writer and literary patron in colonial Australia. Biography Stenhouse was born in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland and went on to become a lawyer and a great lover of literature. He was clerk to Sir William Hamilton, 9th Baronet when the latter was practising as an advocate in Edinburgh. He was also a friend of Thomas De Quincey. Other associates in Edinburgh include Professor John Wilson and Professor Patrick Campbell MacDougall. Michael Steven Stenhouse (born May 29, 1958) is an American former outfielder, first baseman, and designated hitter in Major League Baseball who played for the Montreal Expos from -, the Minnesota Twins in , and the Boston Red Sox in .
