A statue of Baseball Hall of Fame player Willie McCovey was installed in McCovey Cove, San Francisco. It was unveiled in 2003 and was created by sculptor William Behrends. The statue was removed by San Francisco Giants The San Francisco Giants are an American professional baseball team based in San Francisco. William Behrends
William Frederick Behrends (born 1946) is an American sculptor who is best known for creating statues of iconic American sports figures, notably baseball players. Willie McCovey
Willie Lee McCovey (January 10, 1938 – October 31, 2018), nicknamed "Stretch" and "Willie Mac", was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman from 1959 to 1980, most notably as a member of the San Francisco Giants for whom he played for 19 seasons. McCovey also played for the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics in the latter part of his MLB career. He was a fearsome left-handed power hitter.
