Eilif Peterssen
Hjalmar Eilif Emanuel Peterssen (4 September 1852 – 29 December 1928) was a Norwegian painter. He is most commonly associated with his landscapes and portraits. He gained early recognition for the history painting ''Christian II signing the Death Warrant of Torben Oxe'' and established himself as one of Norway's foremost portrait painters, with portraits of, among others, Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Grieg. He also became known for his landscape paintings, and became part of the artist circle known as the Skagen Painters. He also became known for his design in 1905 of Coat of arms of Norway, Norway's national coat of arms with the Norwegian lion, which was used by the government and the royal house. Yngvar Sonnichsen
Yngvar Sonnichsen (March 9, 1873 – July 1938) was a Norwegian born, American artist and painter known especially for his portraits, landscapes and murals. Background Yngvar Sonnichsen was born in Christiania, (now Oslo, Norway to S.P. and Inga Mathea Sonnichsen. He studied at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondhjem earning a civil engineering degree. He studied art at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry with Norwegian artists Oscar Wergeland and Eilif Peterssen. Later, from 1895 to 1899, he attended the Académie Julian in Paris, studying with William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. Thorolf Holmboe
Thorolf Holmboe (10 May 18668 March 1935) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and designer. Biography He was born in Vefsn Municipality in Nordland county, Norway, as the oldest son of Othar Ervigius Holmboe and his wife Sofie Birgitte Andrea Hall. He had one brother, Othar, who also became a painter. His grandfather was Michael Wide Holmboe, son of bailiff Jens Holmboe and brother of politicians Even, Leonhard and Hans Holmboe. In addition, he was the nephew of Jens Holmboe, cousin of Johan Henrik Rye Holmboe, and brother-in-law of Jappe Nilssen. He studied under Hans Gude in Berlin between 1886 and 1887 and Fernand Cormon in Paris between 1889 and 1891. He was inspired by many different styles at different points in his career, including Naturalism, Neo-romanticism, Realism and Impressionism. Emil Biorn
Emil Christensen Biorn (June 7, 1864 – July 30, 1935) was a Norwegian-born American sculptor, painter, and composer. Background Emil Biorn was born in Oslo, Christiania, Norway, the son of Christian Biørn from Lier, Norway, Lier and his wife Karoline Agnete, née Høyerdahl (or Heyerdahl), from Aurskog. He was trained at both the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry, Royal Norwegian School of Drawing and at Ludvig Mathias Lindeman, Lindeman's School of Music in Oslo. Biorn studied art in Paris and as well as at the Chicago Art Institute. Career In 1887, Biorn came to America, where he was employed as a commercial artist by the Barnes-Crosby Company, an engraving firm in Chicago. He married Sigrid Lowsum (1870–1939) in 1891. Nikolai Astrup () (30 August 1880 – 21 January 1928) was a Norwegian modernist painter. Astrup was a distinctive, innovative artist noted principally for his intense use of color depicting the lush landscapes of Vestlandet featuring the traditional way of life in the region. Biography Nikolai Johannes Astrup was born in the village of Kalvåg on the island of Frøya in Norway. Astrup grew up in Ålhus in rural Jølster between the Sognefjord and the Nordfjord. Hans Olaf Halvor Heyerdahl (8 July 1857 – 10 October 1913) was a Norwegian Realist painter. His work was characterized by naturalism and focused largely on portraits and landscape paintings. Biography Heyerdahl was born in Smedjebacken, Sweden. He was the son of and Hilda Margretha Haak (1834–1917). His father was a prominent engineer and architect.
