State Roads In Florida Before 1945
History The earliest evidence found of the old state road system is on a 1917 State Road Department map; in 1923 the Florida State Legislature began writing the routes into law. Every two years, when the legislature met, new roads were added, at first by number, and later giving the SRD the ability to choose a number. Many routes, specifically SR 2, had not only a main route, but spurs and loops to different places. These were mostly caused by the Legislature. Even when a road was also a U.S. Highway, the State Road number was signed. Up to and including 1939, every road written into law by the Legislature was given a number by the SRD. This included the range from SR 397 to SR 449, which included most of the 1926 Bond Issue Roads in Orange County and some other major roads. The 1939 numbering ended with SR 545; 546 to 549 were skipped. State Road 10 (SR 10), also known as Atlantic Boulevard, is a major east–west state highway in the U.S. state of Florida. Mostly unsigned in favor of U.S. Highway 90, it runs from the Alabama state line ( Perdido River) to Atlantic Beach. The only sections that are not signed as US 90 are north of Pensacola, where US 90 uses SR 10A and SR 10 is signed as U.S. Highway 90 Alternate, and east of south Jacksonville, where US 90 uses unsigned SR 212. Route description The only signed section of SR 10 is in Jacksonville and Atlantic Beach. Signage begins at the interchange with Interstate 95 and U.S. Highway 1, where US 1 splits to the south. Florida State Road 9 (SR 9) is a state road in the U.S. state of Florida. While SR 9 is mainly used as a state designation for Interstate 95 in Florida from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami Gardens to the Georgia border (near Yulee, Florida), a signed SR 9, which is locally known in the Miami area as West 27th Avenue, Unity Boulevard, and historically Grapeland Boulevard, extends from the Coconut Grove section of Miami to the Golden Glades Interchange (where the unsigned portion continues northward along I-95). The segment of I-95 south of the Golden Glades Interchange carries the designation of State Road 9A.
