Starless And Bible Black
''Starless and Bible Black'' is the sixth studio album by English progressive rock band King Crimson, released in March 1974 by Island Records in the United Kingdom and by Atlantic Records in the United States. It features most of the personnel which appeared on the group's preceding album, '' Larks' Tongues in Aspic'', with only percussionist Jamie Muir not returning, and is the band's final album with violinist David Cross as a member, although he would appear on one track on ''Red''. Much of the album was recorded live and edited together with studio recordings and overdubs. The album includes multiple fully improvised pieces. David Cross (musician)
David Cross (born 23 April 1949 in Turnchapel near Plymouth, England) is an English electric violinist and keyboardist best known for playing with progressive rock band King Crimson from 1972 to 1974. Biography Cross appeared on the King Crimson studio albums '' Larks' Tongues in Aspic'' (1973) and '' Starless and Bible Black'' (1974), as well as "Providence", a live track on ''Red'' (1974), in addition to live albums ''USA'' (1975) and ''The Night Watch'' (recorded 1973, released 1997). Cross also appears on numerous concert recordings from his time in the group that have been released by Robert Fripp's Discipline Global Mobile label in the decades since. Satan
Satan, also known as the Devil, is a devilish entity in Abrahamic religions who seduces humans into sin (or falsehood). Richard Palmer-James
Richard William Palmer-James (born 11 June 1947) is an English guitarist, songwriter and lyricist. He may be best known as one of the founding members of Supertramp (playing guitar and songwriter); writing lyrics for several songs by the progressive rock group King Crimson in the early 1970s; and for writing lyrics for the 1985 hit " (I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" by Sandra. Palmer-James was born in Meyrick Park, Bournemouth, where he got his start in the music business playing in various local bands: The Corvettes, The Palmer-James Group (formed with Alec James), Tetrad, and Ginger Man, all of which included John Wetton on bass and vocals. ''The Construkction of Light'' (stylised as ''the construKction of light'') is the twelfth studio album by English band King Crimson, released in May 2000 by Virgin Records. It is the first of two studio albums to feature the "double duo" line-up of Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto. It is the group's longest studio album and the only one not to chart in the United States. Recording and release In the late 1990s, drummer Bill Bruford and bassist Tony Levin left King Crimson, ending the "double trio" era documented on ''THRAK''. A Young Person's Guide To King Crimson
''A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson'' is a 2-LP compilation album by the band King Crimson, released in 1976. At the time of release, the band had been disbanded for nearly two years. Guitarist Robert Fripp selected the tracks for inclusion. Its name is most likely derived either from the famous orchestral work ''The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra'' by composer Benjamin Britten or the 1960s television series '' Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra'', created by conductor/composer Leonard Bernstein. The gatefold sleeve featured artwork by Scottish artist Fergus Hall, with the front cover being ''The Landscape Player'' and the back cover being ''Earth''. Included as part of the package was a booklet, replete with photographs, and detailing gig history and notable events; this was compiled by Robert Fripp from his own archive. The Night Watch (album)
''The Night Watch'' is a live album (2-CD set) by the English rock band King Crimson, recorded in Amsterdam in November 1973 and released in 1997. Contents This album contains an important performance in King Crimson's career, being the source of the improvisations "Trio" and "Starless and Bible Black", the Fripp instrumental "Fracture" and the intro to the song "The Night Watch", all of which were included, with some editing, on the 1974 album ''Starless and Bible Black''. Prerecorded excerpts of ''(No Pussyfooting)'' appear at the end of "21st Century Schizoid Man" similarly to what was included at the beginning of ''USA''. Production The concert was performed on 23 November 1973 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which causes a length of magnetic tape to contact a Capstan (tape recorder), capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played for different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson (conductor), Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon (magician), David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. ''The Great Deceiver'' is a 4-CD box set by the band King Crimson, consisting of live recordings from 1973 and 1974, released on Virgin Records in 1992. In 2007, it was reissued on Fripp's Discipline Global Mobile label as two separate 2-CD sets, each featuring new artwork. The box set is titled after a song from the group's 1974 album ''Starless and Bible Black''. The box set features portions of concert recordings of the band from 1973 to 1974. All tracks are performed by the lineup of guitarist/keyboardist Robert Fripp, bassist/vocalist John Wetton, violinist/keyboardist David Cross and drummer Bill Bruford.
