''Stargate'' is a military science fiction media franchise owned by Amazon MGM Studios. It is based on Stargate (film), the film directed by Roland Emmerich, which he co-wrote with producer Dean Devlin; production company StudioCanal owns the rights to the original film. The franchise is based on the idea of an alien wormhole (specifically an Einstein–Rosen bridge) device (the Stargate (device), Stargate) that enables nearly teleportation, instantaneous travel across the cosmos. The franchise began with the film Stargate (film), ''Stargate'', released on October 28, 1994, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Carolco, which grossed United States dollar, US$197million worldwide. Stargate Worlds
''Stargate Worlds'' (abbreviated as ''SGW'') was to be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) video game, but it was put on hold and never released. It was developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME) in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and would have been published by FireSky for Microsoft Windows. The game's setting was based on the military science fiction series ''Stargate SG-1''. The game was to focus on a premise set around an ancient device called the "Stargate (device), Stargate". In 2006, both CME and MGM announced the release of a video game set in the Stargate Universe. In 2008, FireSky announced its participation in the process of releasing ''Stargate Worlds''. On March 25, 2010, FireSky announced on their website that CME/CMG had entered receivership. As a result, production on the game ceased. Lynn Picknett (born 1947) is an English writer of books that are mainly about religious history and popular conspiracy theories, the paranormal, the occult, and historical mysteries. Biography Born in Folkestone, Kent, England, in April 1947, Picknett grew up in an alleged haunted house in York, attending Park Grove Junior School and Queen Anne Grammar School. After graduating from university with an Upper 2nd (hons) degree in English Literature, she briefly became a teacher, a shop assistant, and a stand-up comic before moving to London in 1971 to join Marshall Cavendish Publications as a trainee sub-editor. Pauline Gedge (born December 11, 1945) is a Canadian novelist best known for her historical fiction novels, including the best-selling ''Child of the Morning'', ''The Eagle and the Raven'', her fantasy novel ''Stargate'', and her Egyptian trilogies, ''Lords of the Two Lands'' and ''The King's Man''.
