''Star for a Night'' was a British television talent show. It was originally commissioned as a one-off special on 26 June 1999, but was soon commissioned as a series and ran from 8 January 2000 to 20 October 2001. It was presented by Jane McDonald. Jane McDonald
Jane Anne McDonald (born 4 April 1963) is an English singer, songwriter and television presenter. Born and raised in Wakefield, McDonald spent much of her early career performing in local clubs and pubs before landing work as a singer on cruise ships. McDonald became known to the public in 1998 following her appearance on the BBC show '' The Cruise''. The same year, she released her self-titled debut album ''Jane McDonald'' (1998), which topped the UK Albums Chart and remained there for 3 weeks. The singer has had a total of four top 10 albums in the UK in addition to performing in live concerts and her tours at venues across the UK, including the Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium, as well as at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Nigel Martin-Smith is a Manchester-based English musical band manager. Biography Early career Martin-Smith entered the entertainment industry in the early 1980s working as a casting agent from offices in Manchester's Royal Exchange. From there, he challenged the "London-centric" attitude of many in the business, championing the cause of local talent and establishing many actors in film and television. The BBC Genome Project is an online searchable database of programme listings initially based upon the contents of the ''Radio Times'' from the first issue in 1923 to 2009. Television listings from post-2009 can be accessed via the BBC Programmes site. History Prior BBC Genome is not the BBC's first online searchable database. In April 2006, they gave the public access to Infax – their only electronic programme database at the time. It contained around 900,000 entries but not every programme ever broadcast, and it ceased operation in December 2007. The front page of the website is still available to see via the Internet Archive.
