St Patrick's Church, Rosevale
St Patrick's Church is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic church at Rosewood–Aratula Road, Rosevale, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Father Andrew Horan and built from 1888 to 1889. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 11 December 2009. History St Patrick's Church, a modest timber building in a picturesque rural setting, was opened in November 1889 to serve the small farming community of Rosevale, south of Ipswich in south-east Queensland. The adjacent graveyard was blessed at the same time as the church. Both remain in use, although church services are now restricted to an annual mass. The Rosevale district was taken up as part of John Ross's sheep run (known variously as Rosa Ville, Rosa Vista, Rose Valley, Rose Vale, or Rosevale) during the earliest phase of free settlement and pastoral occupation in Queensland. James Laidley
James Turquand Laidley (1823 – 29 March 1877) was a pastoralist and Member of the Queensland Legislative Council in the colony of Queensland (later a state of Australia). Early life James Turquand Laidley was born in 1823 in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of James Laidley and Eliza Jane (née Shepheard). Pastoralism Laidley acquired Western Creek Station on the Darling Downs in 1848. From 1849 to 1879 he was in partnership with his brother-in-law Henry Mort (married to Laidley's sister Maria) in a pastoral property called Franklyn Vale at Mount Mort, Queensland. Politics Laidley was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council on the 1 May 1860 and served until his resignation on the 16 August 1864. Separation Of Queensland
The Separation of Queensland was an event in 1859 in which the land that forms the present-day state of Queensland in Australia was excised from the Colony of New South Wales and proclaimed as a separate crown colony. History European settlement of Queensland began in 1824 when Lieutenant Henry Miller, commanding a detachment of the 40th Regiment of Foot, founded a convict outpost at Redcliffe. The settlement was transferred to the north bank of the Brisbane River the following year and continued to operate as a penal establishment until 1842, when the remaining convicts were withdrawn and the district opened to free settlement. By then squatters had already established themselves on the Darling Downs, far distant from the seat of the New South Wales government in Sydney.
