St Joseph’s Football & Netball Club Inc, nicknamed the ''Joeys'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the residential suburb of Herne Hill, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Geelong Football Netball League, the major regional league in Geelong. History With less than four weeks to the start of the 1973 season junior club St Joseph’s was told that the Geelong & District Football League had passed a motion that all affiliated clubs had to field teams in all the main sections,(Seniors, Reserves, Under 18 and under 16). The club had to find a ground, a coach, committee and forty senior players necessary to keep the club afloat. Martin Bourke was appointed coach and Drew Reserve was obtained as a home ground. They joined the Geelong & District Football League and won their first flag in 1982. In those days promotion to the Geelong Football League was automatic as was demotion. The Geelong Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. It is widely regarded as the highest standard Australian rules football league in regional Victoria, with several former AFL players now playing for a variety of clubs. History The league was formed in 1979 when twelve clubs broke away from the Geelong & District Football League. The city and country clubs of the old GDFL were divided into the major league competition of the GFL and the minor league of the GDFL. Many of the teams in the lower league wanted a system of promotion and relegation, which was fought by the GFL until the early 1980s when the Victorian Country Football League held a hearing in Melbourne. As a result, a trial promotion-relegation system was put into place on a voluntary basis. Nick Maxwell
Nicholas Maxwell (born 3 June 1983) is a former Australian rules football player and former captain of the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Nick Maxwell was born in Geelong to parents Sue and Doug and at age 10 moved to Wallington. He was educated at St. Joseph's College where he played his junior football. In 2001, Maxwell played for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup. His first senior football was played with the North Ballarat Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The Adelaide Crows (officially the Adelaide Football Club) are a professional Australian rules football team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1990. Tom Doedee (born 1 March 1997) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Doedee excelled as a junior basketballer from the age of six playing as a Point Guard in the Geelong Supercats junior teams. He also played junior football for St Joseph's in Geelong Football League. He played for Victoria Country in the 2012 under-18 Australian basketball championships. He sat out the Geelong Falcons 2014 preseason to concentrate on basketball, hoping for a possible scholarship in the United States. The West Coast Eagles are a professional Australian rules football club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was founded in 1986 as one of two expansion teams in the Australian Football League (AFL), then known as the Victorian Football League. Alex Witherden (born 10 September 1998) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Witherden was a successful junior athlete in basketball and cricket but his biggest aspiration was to play in the AFL. He loved football so much that his mother forged his age in order to go to Auskick a year early. He regularly played football above his age group as a junior for Barwon Heads in the Bellarine Football League, mainly playing as a midfielder.
