St Ives North (electoral Division)
St Ives North was an electoral division of Cornwall in the United Kingdom. As a division of Cornwall County Council, it returned one member from 1973 to 2005, when it was absorbed into the St Ives electoral division. As a division of Penwith District Council, it returned two members from 1979 to 2009, when the council was abolished. A division to the unitary authority Cornwall Council was also called St Ives North, returning one councillor from 2009 to 2013, after which it was replaced by St Ives West. The Parliament of the United Kingdom currently has 650 parliamentary constituencies across the constituent countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), each electing a single member of parliament (MP) to the House of Commons by the plurality (first past the post) voting system, ordinarily every five years. Voting last took place in all 650 of those constituencies at the United Kingdom general election on 12 December 2019. The number of seats rose from 646 to 650 at the 2010 general election after proposals made by the boundary commissions for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (the Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies) were adopted through statutory instruments. Elections to Cornwall County Council were held on 5 May 1977. The whole council of seventy-nine members was up for election and the result was that the Independents, despite losing nine seats, comfortably retained control, winning sixty-four seats.
