St Gabriel's School
St Gabriel's School is an independent day school located at Sandleford Priory in Sandleford, two miles (3 km) south of Newbury, in the English county of Berkshire. Pupils and Staff Boys attend the nursery and junior school, up to age 11 (Year 6). Girls attend the nursery, junior school, secondary school and the sixth form, up to age 18 (Year 13). There is now a school community of over 460 pupils, 60 teaching staff and 20 support staff. It is associated with traditional Church of England values. History St Gabriel's School was founded in 1929 in Mill Hill in London. In 1939 the school was evacuated to West Ogwell Manor in Devon for the safety of the pupils and because their Mill Hill, London site was requisitioned. The school remained in the West Country until 1943 when it relocated to Ormonde House, Newbury. After Easter in 1948 the school moved to Sandleford Priory. Elizabeth Montagu (née Robinson; 2 October 1718 – 25 August 1800) was a British social reformer, patron of the arts, salonnière, literary critic and writer, who helped to organize and lead the Blue Stockings Society. Her parents were both from wealthy families with strong ties to the British peerage and learned life. She was sister to Sarah Scott, author of ''A Description of Millenium icHall and the Country Adjacent''. She married Edward Montagu, a man with extensive landholdings, to become one of the richer women of her era. Blue Stockings Society
The Blue Stockings Society, an informal women's social and educational movement in England in the mid-18th century, emphasised education and mutual cooperation. Elizabeth Montagu, Elizabeth Vesey and others founded it in the early 1750s as a literary discussion group, a step away from traditional, non-intellectual women's activities. Both men and women were invited to attend, including the botanist, translator and publisher Benjamin Stillingfleet, who was not rich enough to dress properly for the occasion and appeared in everyday blue worsted stockings. James Wyatt
James Wyatt (3 August 1746 – 4 September 1813) was an English architect, a rival of Robert Adam in the neoclassical and neo-Gothic styles. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1785 and was its president from 1805 to 1806. Early life Wyatt was born on 3 August 1746 at Weeford, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, England.
