St. Xavier's College, Lengpui
St. Xavier's College, Lengpui, Mizoram, India, is an undergraduate college opened in 2017. It is named after St. Francis Xavier, a Navarre Jesuit of the 16th century, who ministered in India. It is the first catholic college in Mizoram, India. History The college was started at the request of the Bishop of Aizawl, Stephen Rotluanga. The foundation stone was laid in November 2016 and the College was inaugurated on 18 July 2017 by the Chief Minister of Mizoram Lalthanhawla. The college is named after Francis Xavier, the 16th century Jesuit saint from Navarre, northern Spain. Location The college campus is located at Lengpui in a 29-acre plot. Stephen Rotluanga, is a Mizo people, Mizo Catholic prelate, dramatist, painter, sculptor, cartoonist, and caricaturist who is serving as the second and current Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Aizawl. He was consecrated in 2002, becoming the first ever Mizo people, Mizo to be ordained a bishop. Lal Thanhawla (born 19 May 1938 or 1942) is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Mizoram, belonging to the Indian National Congress party. He holds the record for longest-serving Chief Minister of Mizoram, occupying the position for five terms: 1984 to 1986, 1989 to 1993, 1993 to 1998, 2008 to 2013, and 2013 to 2018. He served as President of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee from 1973 to 2021. His electoral constituencies were Serchhip and Hrangturzo from where he successfully contested the Mizoram Legislative Assembly elections nine times, in 1978, 1979, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1993, 2003, 2008, and 2013.
