St. Theresa's Church, Denmark
St. Theresa's Church (Danish language, Danish: Sankt Therese Kirke) is a Roman Rite, Roman Catholic Church, Catholic church located at Bernstorffsvej on Hellerup, Gentofte Municipality, Copenhagen, Denmark. It is part of a larger complex which also comprises Rygaards International School. The congregation now has about 500 members above the age of 16 from 314 households. History A group of Religious of the Assumption, Assumption Sisters came to Denmark in 1908. They were initially based at Amalievej 16 in Frederiksberg and later at St. Andrew's Church, Gentofte Municipality, St. Andrew's College in Ordrup. In 1930 they acquired the property Rygaard on Bernstorffsvej in Hellerup. A chapel was installed in a room with high ceilings in the main wing. Mass was read on a daily basis from 13 August 1930. Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most urban part of the district is centred on Strandvejen and is bordered by Østerbro to the south and the Øresund to the east. It comprises Tuborg Havn, the redeveloped brewery site of Tuborg Breweries, with the Waterfront Shopping Center, a marina and the headquarters of several large companies. Other parts of the district consist of single family detached homes. Local landmarks include the science centre Experimentarium and the art Øregaard Museum. The Religious of the Assumption is an international Roman Catholic women's congregation founded by Saint Marie Eugénie Milleret in Paris in 1839, and dedicated to the education of young girls. The Assumption Mission Associates is an affiliated organization providing an opportunity for young people to experience working with the sisters in their now various ministries. History The congregation was founded in 1839 by two young women: Eugénie Milleret de Brou, (religious name Mère Marie-Eugénie de Jesus), under the direction of the Abbé Combalot, a well-known orator of the time, who had been inspired to establish the institute during a pilgrimage to the shrine of Sainte-Anne d'Auray in 1825. Jagtvej ( lit. "Hunt Road") is a major artery in the Nørrebro and Østerbro districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Ågade on the border with Frederiksberg in the southwest to Østerbrogade in the northeast, linking Falkoner Allé with Strandboulevarden. The street passes Assistens Cemetery, University of Copenhagen's North Campus and Fælled Park. History The road originates in a track which was established in the 1660s to enable royal hunting parties to travel more easily from Frederiksberg Palace to Jægersborg Deer Garden and Frederiksborg Castle in North Zealand. The so-called Demarcation Line, which enforced a no-built zone outside Copenhagen's fortifications, was moved to the track in 1682. Ordrup
Ordrup is a district of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located circa north of the city centre. History Ordrup was originally a small village which only consisted of eight farms and a forge. The area became a popular destination for excursions for citizens from Copenhagen in the 17th century. The farmers supplemented their income by harvesting peat that was sold on the market in Copenhagen. Ordrup came under Bernstorff Palace in the 1760s after Foreign Minister Johann Hartwig Ernst von Bernstorff had received the entire area from Christian V as a gift. Bernstorff was a driving force behind the agricultural reforms of the time. A detailed map of the land was drawn up. The land was divided into lots. A draw which took place at Bernstorff Palace on 1 September 1765 distributed the lots among the local farmers.
