St. Mary's College (Chilaw)
St. Mary's College, Chilaw is one of the oldest English educational institutes of past Ceylon. St. Mary's College is a provincial school, which provides secondary education. History St. Mary's College, Chilaw was established as St. Mary's English School. It was founded in the premises of G. S. Perera at Jetty Street Chilaw. In 1905 the school was shifted to the Queen Victoria Memorial Hall, which was situated near the cathedral of Chilaw. On 1 May 1933, the college handed over the administration to the De La Salle brothers and shifted to the current location, its first director was Rev. Bro. Caesar Albert. It was a mixed school of girls and boys where the former principals were Rev. Father Joseph David Fernando and J. Robert Fernando who were attached to community of Oblates Mary immaculate. Chilaw
Chilaw (, ) is a city in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is governed by an urban council, whereas the outskirts are governed by a pradeshiya sabha of the same name. The town is located 80 kilometers away from Colombo via Negombo. Religious composition in Chilaw DS Division according to 2012 census data is as follows Roman Catholics 28,544-45.66%, Buddhists 22,855-36.56%, Muslims 5,205-8.33%, Hindus 4,288-6.86%, Other Christians 1,609-2.57%, Others 14-0.02%. The Diocese of Chilaw (Lat: ''Dioecesis Chilavensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka. Erected as the Diocese of Galle in 1939, the diocese is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Colombo. In 1995, part of the diocese was split off to form the Diocese of Kurunegala. Frank Marcus Fernando
Frank Marcus Fernando ( Sinhala: ෆ්රෑන්ක් මාකස් ප්රනාන්දු) (October 19, 1931 – August 24, 2009) was the Sri Lankan bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chilaw in Sri Lanka. Fernando served as the Bishop of Chilaw from his appointment on December 27, 1972, until his retirement on October 19, 2006. The diocese is based in Chilaw, a coastal city north of Colombo. Frank Marcus Fernando was born in 1931. He was officially ordained a Catholic priest in Rome, Italy. Bishop of Chilaw Fernando was first ordained as a bishop on August 19, 1965. He was further appointed the coadjutor bishop of Chilaw in 1968. Fernando served as the president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka. The Joseph Vaz College of Wennappuwa is a Public school (UK), public school in Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1934 and consecrated in honour of St. Joseph Vaz. It opened with 28 children with Bro. Lewis as its first director. It is a National School, meaning that it is funded by the central government as opposed to the Provincial Council providing both primary and secondary education.
