St. Mary's A.F.C.
St. Mary's A.F.C. is an Irish association football club based in Kilcully Park, near Glanmire and Blackpool, Cork. Their senior men's team currently plays in the Munster Senior League Senior Premier Division. The club has previously played in the Cork Athletic Union League. They have also competed in the FAI Cup, the FAI Intermediate Cup and the Munster Senior Cup. History Early years St. Mary's A.F.C. was formed in 1948 as a single youth team based in Gurranabraher, taking their name from the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne. In 1948–49 the club entered a team in the Munster Youth League. The following season, 1949–50, saw the formation of schoolboy and junior teams and the club also entered the Munster Junior League. 1949–50 also saw the club win its first trophy, the Munster Youth Cup, after defeating Clonmel Town 2–1 in the final at Turners Cross. Munster Senior League (association Football)
The Munster Senior League is an association football league organised by the Munster Football Association. It organises seven divisions as well as various cup competitions. Its Senior Division is a third level division in the Republic of Ireland football league system. Munster Senior League teams also compete in the Munster Senior Cup, the FAI Cup, the FAI Intermediate Cup and the FAI Junior Cup. In recent seasons the winners of the Senior Division have qualified to play in the League of Ireland Cup. Despite using the Munster name in its title, the vast majority of its member clubs are based in County Cork. However, in the past it has included clubs from County Limerick, County Waterford, County Kerry and County Tipperary. Munster Youth Cup (association Football)
The Munster Football Association (MFA) is the governing body for association football in the Irish province of Munster. It is affiliated to the Football Association of Ireland and is responsible for organising the Munster Senior Cup and the Munster Senior League as well as numerous other leagues and cup competitions for junior teams. There are 13 leagues and approximately 800 teams affiliated with the MFA. History The MFA was founded in October 1901 and affiliated to the Belfast–based Irish Football Association. In the 1901–02 season the Munster Senior Cup was introduced. According to David Toms there were many civilian and British Army teams based throughout the province, most notably in Cork (city), Cork and Waterford, but also in Limerick and County Tipperary. However the original MFA organising committee was dominated by the British Army, and it fell into abeyance following the outbreak of the First World War.
