St. Catharines Rowing Club
The St. Catharines Rowing Club is a non-profit organization located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. It has a long history of rowing excellence and community service dating back over more than a century. Founded in 1903 Port Dalhousie, Ontario (now part of St. Catharines) the fifth SCRC clubhouse is now located on Henley Island in the Martindale Pond. Club singlets consist of alternating cerise and blue (club colours) horizontal stripes. Community service The SCRC shares facilities with the Brock University Rowing Club, Ridley Graduate Rowing Club, Rowing Alumni, Henley Island Helpers, the Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation (CHRC), local high schools, dragon boats and the people of the Niagara region. Royal Canadian Henley Regatta
The Royal Canadian Henley Regatta started in 1880 as the first championship for the newly formed Canadian Association of Amateur Oarsmen. History It changed venues often until 1903, when it was decided to hold it at St. Catharines Port Dalhousie's Martindale Pond hosted by the St. Catharines Rowing Club permanently. Originally, the race was 1 mile 550 yards long (2112m), the same distance as the Henley Royal Regatta in England at the time. The pond was an ideal location because the level of the water could be controlled. Wooden grandstands were built, and in 1947, women raced for the first time. In 1964, the distance was changed to 2000 metres, the current standard distance for international competition. The facilities were completely redone in 1966, and in 1972, women's races became a permanent, rather than exhibition event. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. The CSSRA has hosted the main high school rowing event, known as the CSSRA Championships since 1945. In 2020, the regatta was cancelled due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. CSSRA’s are held annually the first weekend of June (Friday through Sunday) in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta course. Dragon Boat
A dragon boat is a human-powered watercraft originating from the Pearl River Delta region of China's southern Guangdong Province. These were made of teak, but in other parts of China different kinds of wood are used. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international Rowing (sport), rowing regatta organized by International Rowing Federation, FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic Games, Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. Brock University

Port Dalhousie
Port Dalhousie is a community in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Known for its waterfront appeal, it is home to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and is historically significant as the terminus for the first three (19th century) routes of the Welland Canal, built in 1820, 1845 and 1889.
